It does so through a case study of the introduction and diffusion into Britain of a brass musical instrument, the wide bore German horn, over a period of some 40 years in the middle of the twentieth century. -

AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORIC & CULTURAL TREASURES JULY 26, 2018 African American Historic & Cultural Treasure 500: Jazz Critics Poll Down Beat Award, 1956 USD 300 - 400 First place awarded to Art Tatum in this wood and metal shield-shaped award. 7 1/2 x 7".Art Tatum is considered one of the world's greatest jazz pianists. Tatum had received some formal musical training but, utilizing his perfect pitch, was mainly self-taught. He was known for his experimental and creative playing, as well as his legendary speed and improvisational skills. Despite being nearly blind, Tatum's dexterity made him an excellent player, as can be heard on the 1933 recording 'Tea for Two,' one of his best known songs.Ahead of his time, Art Tatum's techniques would contribute to the development of modern jazz, with aspects of his technique influencing musicians including Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, and Oscar Peterson. Tatum, after his sadly premature death at age 47, was recognized for his considerable talents and his contributions to the jazz world when he was posthumously inducted into the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame, the International Hall of Fame, and awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, among other honors.From the Estate of Art Tatum. 501: Stereo Review's Record of the Year Award, 1974 USD 200 - 300 8 x 10" high gloss framed award recognizing Art Tatum's "The Tatum Solo Masterpiece" as the Record of the Year.Art Tatum is considered one of the world's greatest jazz pianists. While we have fresh flowers each week at Garden of Palms we look forward to taking our decorations to the next level for Shavuot and bringing you fantastic programming as well! Savoy and Regent Label Discography
Discography of the Savoy/Regent and Associated Labels Savoy was formed in Newark New Jersey in 1942 by Herman Lubinsky and Fred Mendelsohn. Lubinsky acquired Mendelsohn’s interest in June 1949. Mendelsohn continued as producer for years afterward. Savoy recorded jazz, R&B, blues, gospel and classical. The head of sales was Hy Siegel. Production was by Ralph Bass, Ozzie Cadena, Leroy Kirkland, Lee Magid, Fred Mendelsohn, Teddy Reig and Gus Statiras. The subsidiary Regent was extablished in 1948. Regent recorded the same types of music that Savoy did but later in its operation it became Savoy’s budget label. The Gospel label was formed in Newark NJ in 1958 and recorded and released gospel music. The Sharp label was formed in Newark NJ in 1959 and released R&B and gospel music. The Dee Gee label was started in Detroit Michigan in 1951 by Dizzy Gillespie and Divid Usher. Dee Gee recorded jazz, R&B, and popular music. The label was acquired by Savoy records in the late 1950’s and moved to Newark NJ. The Signal label was formed in 1956 by Jules Colomby, Harold Goldberg and Don Schlitten in New York City. The label recorded jazz and was acquired by Savoy in the late 1950’s. There were no releases on Signal after being bought by Savoy. The Savoy and associated label discography was compiled using our record collections, Schwann Catalogs from 1949 to 1982, a Phono-Log from 1963. Some album numbers and all unissued album information is from “The Savoy Label Discography” by Michel Ruppli. -

Hoover Beginning Band Welcome, musicians! All students are welcome to join band without experience ! Beginning Band is a year-long elective that meets every day during school. Band does require home practice and instrument rental. Simply request “Beginning Band (Band 1)” on your schedule request form. ● Want to get a head start on learning an instrument? ○ Register for summer band! (June TBD). Applications can be picked up in the HMS front office or from your elementary music teacher after Spring Break. ● NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED! ○ If you have never played an instrument before, don’t worry! Everyone is welcome in beginning band! ● Are you already in Orchestra? ○ You can continue into the Hoover Intermediate Orchestra AND take Beginning Band! ● Do we have grades in band? ○ Yes, just like any elective class that meets daily.
