This pair shows neither shame nor remorse for the way they have treated their real (first) wives, and now live in sin with women who are not their wives, pretending that life is good. “Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth. For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away.” (Mal 2:15-16) Black Keys will be joined by indie rock band Modest Mouse, whose lead singer Isaac Brock stated "I'm 100 percent on the whole christianity thing being a crock of shit, pretty much". Black Keys and Modest Mouse have nothing to offer anybody. Zero, zilch, nought, nada. God willing, WBC will be in Kansas City to inject some Bible into their tour. These sin teachers will continue to infect the minds of many, so we look for any responsive soul who will not be numbered with the multitude, and would rather refuse the evil, and choose the good. An Interview with Patrick Sweany PHOTO CREDIT: Joshua Black Wilkins Nashville musician Patrick Sweany has never been one to conform to his surroundings. In a city where country is kind, Sweany brings an invigorating blend of roots, blues and Motown soul to his music. His style incorporates a natural aesthetic that shows his heart as a distinct part of everything he does with a guitar. His voice has a rustic quality and a no-nonsense approach. On November 4, he’ll be performing on the upstairs stage of the Columbus Theatre in Providence’s West End with Boston blues dynamo Julie Rhodes. Before the festivities Sweany and I had a chat about his beginnings in Kent, Ohio, what made him move to Nashville, his time from working with The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, last year’s release Daytime Turned To Nighttime, his opinions on the Nashville scene and what his plans are for the holidays. Rob Duguay: You started your musical career playing around Kent, Ohio, and now you’re based in Nashville. How did you end up in Nashville? Was it always a goal of yours to move there or did it just happen by chance? Patrick Sweany: It had been on my mind to move to Nashville for a while due to it being a big place for the music business along with the epicenter of everything happening moving closer to that city. I didn’t realize how much the place would really blow up since I’ve been here, but it has really has been a center for touring players and sidemen so I had been thinking about it for a few years.

That doesn’t matter. In the end it’s all about the music that gets captured and presented. Anyone can be part of the album making process regardless of experience, skill or fame. What I mean by “job” is the role a person takes on when they offer to help record someone else’s music. What is our responsibility to the artist and the music? Maybe our job is to protect the art. To shield the artist from outside worries that could derail better performances. To be the cheerleader when someone isn’t sure of his or her work. To stop someone when they are nitpicking music that has already reached its peak. To hide technology from the artist in order to keep the flow of a session moving forward. Many times I’ve had a client ask me questions like, “So, do we have to lay down drums first to a click and then overdub everything?” or, “Do you always double track the vocals?” Sometimes they are the scarred survivors of some studio nitwit that imposed inappropriate or odd recording choices on their music.

The name was both unfit for radio and a jab at fame-chasers. But the project was also meant to be bright, playful and brimming with energy. Grace Potter & the Nocturnals – the Lion the Beast the Beat
Grace Potter And The Nocturnals have followed up their excellent 2010 self‐titled breakthrough album, and it has some unexpected changes in addition to the departure of bassist Catherine Popper. Royal Southern Brotherhood is a new band formed by Cyril Neville (Neville Brothers), Devon Allman (Gregg Allman’s son & leader of his own Honeytribe band) and blues rocker Mike Zito. Their debut album takes advantage of the members’ musical versatility, yet it is surprisingly cohesive. The Grip Weeds is a band that is named after John Lennon’s Private Grip Weed character in the anti‐war movie How I Won The War. After twenty years of recording, the band has just released their first live album, and it demonstrates what is so great about the band. Grace Potter & The Nocturnals – The Lion The Beast The Beat Grace Potter And The Nocturnals had a huge task to fulfill in following up their successful self‐titled album from 2010. Grace wasn’t happy with the first two weeks of recording, so she took a road trip to clear her head and get some fresh ideas. She wound up writing some new songs as well as completing some that were already in progress on her excursion. She and The Nocturnals also collaborated with Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys on three songs at his studio in Nashville. The Lion The Beast The Beat is the resulting album, and it is a great album, though it’s probably not what most people expected. Grace’s awesome soulful voice is versatile enough to sing anything and make it sound great.
