PAIN AND PALLIATIVE CARE UNIT

Pain and palliative care unit of our college was functioned as a part of NSS Units of our college before 2017. It was formed as a separate unit during the period of our former Principal Dr.Elsamma Joseph Arakkal. Sini P.M. was given charge of the same from the academic year 2017-18.Pain and Palliative care unit of our college is functioning in corroboration with Primary Health Centre Ollur, Pain and Palliative Care Society, and ALPHA Hospice, Thrissur.

The activities of Pain and Palliative Care Unit of our college during academic year 2017-18 were started with the enrolment of five students in the beginning. In connection with the Palliative day of 14th October, our students in collaboration with NSS Units of our college have performed cultural activities at Lions Club Community Hall, Ollur. They also participated in the family get together of differently abled children on the same day. From November 10-12, Thirty seven students of our college from various classes including those from NSS Units had participated in the State Conference of Student’s Association of Palliative Care. It was a residential camp of three days, conducted at Government Engineering College, Thrissur. Some of our students also presented cultural activities here. Our Student Heera anchored the whole programme. Misna Rahim was selected as the student representative of our college in that conference. As part of that training a field visit was conducted to Chandrappinni where a home for differently abled children is about to build, under the initiative of ALPHA Palliative Care by incorporating the entire student community of our state The Project is known as known as Mantharam. Our students also decided to contribute in this regard and participated in laying fountain stone for that dream home.After SAPC State Conference unit’s strength has increased from five to twenty members. On 14th December, an orientation class was conducted for our students and staff at our Auditorium. Apart from certain staff, 714 students also gathered to hear that class and experience sharing of differently abled people and their care takers. It was conducted by Pain and Palliative unit of our college with the cooperation of ALPHA Palliative Care,NSS and SAPC. Class representatives were selected. Books containing sponsorship forms and receipt for helping the Mantharamproject were handed over them. Three of our students were also selected for Thrissur Flowershow, 2018, conducted near ground of Nehru Park. A Class level campaign is also planning to accelerate the fund collection. Most of our members are willing for volunteer ship and home care. A training camp for them in collaboration with Ollur Link Centre is our next venture. Our unit is also visitedAshaBhavan at .. Under the leadership of Naveen Gosh and HafisMuhammed, some boys and girls of our college are doing Home care in connection with Ollur Primary Health Centre. The amount(Rs.4200/ only) collected for Mantharam project from the staff and students of our college was handed over to ALPHA through the student representative MisnaRahim ofMantharamProject.Students from our college have participated in the cultural programmes organized for patients under the initiative of Primary Health Centre, Ollur on 12th August,2018.

An Orientation class for First year students of our college was conducted on 3rd October 2018at college Auditorium. JyothyJayanWarrier, of Pain and Palliative Care Society, Thrissur,Jinsha Sivan of Community Health Centre, Ollur,VijeshVijayan and AkhilValsaraj, Students Initiative in Palliative Care provided basic awareness about Palliative Care. Akshara and Jubinjas has won Third prize in the Essay Competitionon “Palliative Care- Because I Matter” in connection with World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2018.Fifteen Students of our palliative care unit has participated in the discussion held on 15th October, 2018 at Alpha Hospice, Thrissur.Akshara and Jubinjas have won prizes in the competitions held at Palliative Care society, Thrissur. Dr.Soni.T.L and Sini.P.M .have attended the SAPC Advisory Board Meeting on 24th November, 2018 convened at Alpha Hospice. Volunteer Training was given for Ten Students from our college at Pain and Palliative Care Society,Thrissur. The name of students are Hafis Muhammad, Adarsh C.S, Stejijames, Amulya.K.P, Aparna Suresh, Sona .E.S, FathimaRuxana.T, Manju.K.B, Aysha Huda and Vishnu Priya.K.H.An important meeting of the entire palliative care members was convened on 26th November 2018. The main agenda was Discussion on SAPC Meeting, Experience Sharing, and participation in various competitions being organized in connection with 25th Anniversary of ALPHA,such as Skit, Poster making, Mime, Street Play, Short Films, photography, Essay Writing, Drawing, Choreography and Dance. Two Teachers (Dr.Soni.T.L andSini.P.M) andForty Students from our college has actively participated in the PunerjeniKarunyaSanghamam held at Ground on 31stDecember 2018. It is organized for thousand patients who were destined to live on wheelchairs. Our students toiled hard to make this programme a tremendous success. From the previous day of the Programme our students’s work is noticeable. Anchoring of Heera has won everybody’s applause. Sabari.P played a leading role in Waste Management. Hayrunnisa.S.H,Sruthi.K, Amala.O.S, Rasana.E.R and were served as volunteers respectively on 22nd and 23rd January in Thrissur Flower Show 2019.

An orientation class was conducted at general seminar hall for first semester students byPalliative care unit of our collegein collaboration with Pain and Palliative Care Society, Thrissur.Jyothi Madam, Sreerag and Vijesh of Pain and Palliative care society were the resource persons. 107 students have participated in the same. RopsonCheeranwas selected as the representative of our palliative care activities. Some students were also selected for training in palliative care in the same session. Our students has participated in the essay competition on” my care my right” held at Hospital on 05.10.2019. SAPC Conference namely, SAPC On 2019”Rehabilitating the physically challenged” held at Regional Theatre, Thrissur was attended by students of our Palliative care unit and NSS.Dr.Soni.T.L. accompanied them. RANG 2020 was a cultural fest organized by SIP, a wing of palliative care society Trissur. The fest was conducted in order to commemorate state palliative care day on January 15th 2020. The programme comprised of various cultural events, sessions on palliative care and a fund rising movement. Colleges in and around Trissur was a part of the event.Students of Sri. C.AchuthaMenon Govt. College was also a part of the cultural programmes. Anchoring was done by Aparna Suresh of 3rd DC History. Students of 1st DC Psychology did perform dance programmes and club members of the institution did take part in the rally and events. Rally was also a significant part of the programme.Aparna Suresh played a leading role in organizing students for RANG.
