Production Notes Release Date: 16 September, 2010 Rating: M Running Time: 92 Min
Production Notes Release Date: 16 September, 2010 Rating: M Running Time: 92 min Olive Penderghast (EMMA STONE) was a typical American high school girl, until she decided to be, well, A-typical. I mean, what’s your average, everyday girl to do when her popular, detail- seeking best friend Rhiannon (ALY MICHALKA) wants the 411 on Olive’s weekend, and the boring reality is nothing to brag about? Can’t a non-entity, a perceived zero, an anonymous girl like Olive tell a little white lie if it gives her just a tiny taste of that magical prize sought by every teenager: popularity? Some status updates, however, just cannot be contained, especially when Marianne (AMANDA BYNES), Ojai High School’s very own Tammy Faye Bakker, overhears Olive’s words. Soon, rumors of Olive’s promiscuity are being greatly exaggerated. Within minutes, the student body is all a-twitter, linked-in and face-booked over Olive’s supposed indiscretions. While it’s not necessarily the kind of notoriety Olive was looking for, becoming the center of attention proves to be tantalizingly addictive, so much so that Olive decides not to deny the rumors. In fact, she embraces them, further playing the part by sporting a sexy new look and biting new attitude. After all, she knows the real truth, and her non-judgmental parents (STANLEY TUCCI, PATRICIA CLARKSON) trust her. So she’s not really hurting anyone, is she? Sure, her favorite English teacher Mr. Griffith (THOMAS HADEN CHURCH) feels the need to express his well-meaning concern, while his wife, the school guidance counselor (LISA KUDROW), offers her own brand of advice and protection. -

SPORTS MEMORIAL RIDE THREE RIVERS MOTORCYCLE GROUP CONFERENCE RIDES TO REMEMBER FOOTBALL FRIENDS, VETERANS uu STALLIONS 1B uu MEMORIAL RIDE 6A The News Reporter Published since 1890 every Monday and Thursday for the County of Columbus and her people. WWW.NRCOLUMBUS.COM Monday, October 3, 2016 75 CENTS Tax increase for new WHS would exceed 8 cents By Allen Turner [email protected] Columbus County Manager Bill Clark will present commis- sioners with proposals tonight (Monday) to finance $73.4 million in construction for Whiteville City Schools with a steep property tax increase, with or without a sales tax increase. The meeting gets under way at 6:30 p.m. in the courthouse annex on West Smith Street. One of Clark’s proposals calls for a quarter-cent increase in the sales tax and an increase of the ad valorem property tax rate of 8.59 cents to 89.09 cents per $100 value. His second plan would include a property tax increase of 9.42 cents without a sales tax hike, or 89.92 cents total per $100 value. That is in addition to the 2.5 cents ad valorem tax increase he needed to finance proposed county school system construction totaling almost $70.5 million. Clark also said Friday morning that the 2.5 cents proposed property tax hike already presented to commissioners for coun- ty school construction would need to be increased. It was for- mulated with all of the quarter-cent sales tax increase going to the Columbus County Schools instead of being split with Whiteville City Schools. -

Directed by Dunstan and starring Josh Stewart (The Dark Knight Rises, The Collector), Emma Fitzpatrick (The Social Network) and Christopher McDonald (“Boardwalk Empire,” Requiem for a Dream), the film centers on a traumatized man forced to help rescue a beautiful woman who has become the latest obsession of a crazed killer who “collects” humans in a booby- trapped house of horrors. When ELENA (Fitzpatrick) is talked into attending an underground warehouse party with her friends, she finds herself caught in a nightmarish trap where the revelers are mowed, sliced and crushed to death by a macabre series of contraptions operated by a masked psychopath. When the grisly massacre is over, Elena is the only survivor. But before she can escape, she is locked in a trunk and transported to an unknown location. Fortunately for Elena, one man—ARKIN (Stewart)—knows exactly where she’s headed, having just escaped from there with his life and sanity barely intact. Going back is the last thing on Arkin’s mind, but Elena’s wealthy father (McDonald) hires a crack team of mercenaries to force Arkin to lead them to the killer’s lair. -

Miss World to Box Office Powerhouse, PRIYANKA CHOPRA Has Always Made Winning Her Business
THE ANATOMY OF SUCCESS Miss World to box office powerhouse, PRIYANKA CHOPRA has always made winning her business. Now, with her Hollywood debut, her transcontinental takeover seems complete. In her sheer ivory Zuhair Murad gown and 50-carat diamonds, a winning combo that’s earned her a coveted spot on various best-dressed lists, actor Pri- yanka Chopra, slated to present an award that evening, fielded a dizzying range of red-carpet queries. On several occasions, she made sure to mention that she’d work the after-party circuit, then hop on a red-eye to Miami, where her latest Hollywood project, a 2017 Baywatch reboot, beckoned. She re- mained poised and unflappable, punc- tuating all her answers with an incan- descent smile—surely, a learning from her Miss World days—and a healthy dash of self-deprecation. “I just don’t want to screw up anyone’s name, you know?” she told E!
