TOTO Bio Few ensembles in the history of recorded music have individually or collectively had a larger imprint on pop culture than the members of TOTO. As individuals, the band members’ imprint can be heard on an astonishing 5000 albums that together amass a sales history of a HALF A BILLION albums. Amongst these recordings, NARAS applauded the performances with 225 Grammy nominations. Band members were South Park characters, while Family Guy did an entire episode on the band's hit "Africa." As a band, TOTO sold 35 million albums, and today continue to be a worldwide arena draw staging standing room only events across the globe. They are pop culture, and are one of the few 70s bands that have endured the changing trends and styles, and 35 years in to a career enjoy a multi-generational fan base. It is not an exaggeration to estimate that 95% of the world's population has heard a performance by a member of TOTO. The list of those they individually collaborated with reads like a who's who of Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, alongside the biggest names in music. The band took a page from their heroes The Beatles playbook and created a collective that features multiple singers, songwriters, producers, and multi-instrumentalists. Guitarist Steve Lukather aka Luke has performed on 2000 albums, with artists across the musical spectrum that include Michael Jackson, Roger Waters, Miles Davis, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Rod Stewart, Jeff Beck, Don Henley, Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick and many more. His solo career encompasses a catalog of ten albums and multiple DVDs that collectively encompass sales exceeding 500,000 copies.

  • The California Special"
To: WATERMARK PROGRAM SUBSCRIBERS From: Tom Rounds Re: "THE CALIFORNIA SPECIAL" Saturday, May 31, 1975 Our producer, Ron Jacobs, calls it "better than the History of Rock and Roll or the Elvis Presley Story". He, along with just about everybody else in the Southern California music community has been swept up in the tremendous enthusiasm building for Watermark's latest radio program production: "The California Special". Our 4 color brochure, which I promised a few weeks ago, won't be ready for this week's mailing, so we've re-printed the ad that will break next week. I've also enclosed a postcard, which you should fill out and return, even if you are just remotely interested. If you send in the postcard, we'll send you the demo tape just as soon as it's produced•.. about June 15. The complete 6 hour special will be ready shortly thereafter. "The California Special" will be a new kind of rockumentary, It' 11 be based on all the Southern California hits from 1960 through 1975, but the emphasis will be on the "summer fun and sun'' hits and artists .•. Beachboys, Jan & Dean, etc. The license will allow unlimited use through March of 1977, and we think you' 11 be able to get at least two runs out of the six hours this summer if you move fast. Because the content and the music is so comprehensive, it's probably an easy sell, if you decide to go that way. The ideal scheduling, if your advance programming commitments permit, would call for Sunday afternoon 12Noon-6PM.

  • The Roots Report: the Soundtrack of Summer
The Roots Report: The Soundtrack of Summer Okee dokee folks … “Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.” That line is from one of the best summer songs ever recorded: “Summer Breeze” by Seals and Crofts. If summer had the feel of this song, I might like it more, but it usually leans more toward Bananarama’s “Cruel Summer,” so I am miserable during the heat of June, July and August. Whatever the weather, a good soundtrack for the season definitely makes it more bearable. There is plenty of music to go around this summer. Check back throughout the summer months to find out the best choices for “Hot Fun in the Summer time” (that’s Sly, baby!). Read on for what I have now … What better way to celebrate the official start of summer? The Blackstone River Theatre moves their Celtic and world music programming outside on June 20 as they celebrate the 5th Annual Blackstone River Theatre Summer Solstice Festival at Diamond Hill Park in Cumberland. The family-friendly festival features three music stages, a dance stage and a children’s stage, all running continuously. Performing will be Calan from Wales, The Gothard Sisters, Eastern Medicine Singers, The Gnomes, Cassie & Maggie MacDonald, Robbie O’Connell and Dan Milner, Pendragon, RUNA, The Vox Hunters with Torrin Ryan, and Will Woodson and Joey Abarta. There will also be a dedicated stage for Irish stepdance featuring Tir Na Nog Irish Dance. Also returning will be the after-festival music session on June 20 at 8:30, at Blackstone River Theatre, 549 Broad St, Cumberland.
