Here comes March! I can barely contain myself with Club of America to be either unsafe or inconsistent with the all these warm days we’ve gotten recently (he said, spirit or purpose of the Driver’s Education Program will not the snow glistening outside his window) and I can’t be permitted. Page 4 Schonesland Driving Events: “Yes, You can”

You already have an idea for a Schonesland drive or destination. Or, you may hear about or come across one in the months to come. But how do you turn an idea or destination into a Schonesland driving event?

It’s easier than you think.

Several Schonesland members with driving event experience are ready…….AND more than willing to help. We have detailed maps (for Iowa, Wisconsin & Missouri) to help you plan and select a route. We will provide helpful tips on restroom stops, fuel stops and dining. It may be your first time planning and leading a Schonesland drive – but you needn’t do it alone. We can provide as much, or little, support as you like.

And if you’re looking for another reason to plan and lead a driving event – think of the benefits. Oh, you thought we were going to tell you how it benefits the club and participants. While it’s true others will benefit from your efforts, we think you’ll find the biggest, most lasting benefits will come right back to you. The satisfaction you’ll feel seeing so many smiling faces, the “pats on the back” and heartfelt “thank you’s”…… well, it’s awesome and one of the best feelings.

So, be selfish. Plan and lead a drive on a route or to a destination you’ve selected. Put some smiles on Schonesland faces. We’re available and happy to help turn your idea into a memorable event.

Feel free to contact any of us for assistance.

Downtown Chicago. The McCormick Center. It is, as torque elsewhere and defeat the obstacle. Great fun to most big-city convention centers are, a massive facility, watch, certainly—but even more fun to ride along and and this one is especially well-suited to the rigors of experience, as I did with my son beside me, both of us being home to the Chicago Auto Show. Despite its giggling madly the whole time. daunting square footage, it is laid out quite simply. One can almost glimpse the entirety of the show from a As American automobile brands go, Ford might be the single vantage point, preferably atop a tall ladder, as the plucky turbocharging favorite that didn’t need a taxpayer curvature of the Earth comes into play. bailout to survive in 2008. might be the full- spectrum heavyweight. And might be the crazy Thirty-three automakers plied their wares from amongst yet lovable uncle that always asks, “That thing gotta the 75,000 square feet of space. Some commanded Hemi?” But right now, with a great lineup and sales more acreage than others, some were more varied and surging, feels like the Lewis & Clark expedition, complex than others, but no display was more impressive an Iowa-class battleship, Mount Rushmore, and, well, overall than the combined effort put forth by Fiat a Jeep. There ain’t much that is more unstoppably Automobiles. There was a drag strip for Dodge, and by American than that. God they smoked tires on it every few minutes, all day. There was a “work site” for Ram with cranes and cargo. There was a kids’ play area celebrating the shapely (Did I just call a minivan “shapely”? Yes, I did). Amongst all this marketing fantasy, though, one brand stood out: Jeep.

With some enormous steel bridge-arches, at least a ton of synthetic mulch, a pile of boulders, two flights of stairs, and one big breakover-test ramp, Jeep easily grabbed the show trophy for “Most Indefatigable.” Then they tucked the trophy under one arm, put on a gratuitous spin move that shattered both of ’s ankles, and sprinted out the door toward real adventure. One of the highlights of Toyota’s square footage was a demo of a Highlander auto-sensing and avoiding an oncoming shopping cart in a parking lot—LAME. Jeep’s display, by high contrast, featured Cherokees and Grand Cherokees (in Trailhawk spec) alongside some Wrangler Unlimited Rubicons (roof panels removed) clambering up and over all of the above-mentioned obstacles. For the Wranglers, it was hardly a challenge—their axle articulation is such that the terrain just disappeared beneath the differential hubs and emerged defeated behind the rear bumpers. For the Cherokees and Grand Cherokees, things were a bit more dramatic: one or another wheel would find itself airborne, but then the AWD system would route Page 6 Special Article from Porsche Omaha: Porsche Classic Services

PCNA in the last couple of years has recognized a growing need in Porsche classic trained technicians. With some of the older technicians now getting to the point of retirement and the younger technicians not knowing much about the in depth mechanics of the older classic Porsche vehicles, PCNA last year started their Porsche classic training program for any Porsche dealership that wanted to send technicians to go and get certified for Porsche classic certification. Porsche Omaha took advantage of this great opportunity and now has two Porsche classic certified technicians. Their names are Nick Buller and Bob Smisek. Since getting their Classic certification they have worked on many classic vehicles from a 944, 911, and 914. Nick just wrapped up with a complete engine reseal on a 1973 Porsche 914 and Bob has replaced many timing belts, water pumps, suspension work, and more repairs on 944 models. Both of these guys take great pride in their work and always go by the book to make sure every part gets installed back to Porsche factory specifications. If your Porsche Classic vehicle is in need of service work, call Porsche Omaha and our certified Porsche classic technicians will make sure your vehicle is taken care of and fixed right. Follow us on our Facebook page as we will be posting some of our classic service work on there. Later in the year we will be performing a complete engine rebuild 100% to factory spec on a Porsche 356 engine.

Since May of 2009, the Schonesland Region has enjoyed many great driving tours. One of our “signature” drives, the Loess Hills Run to Sioux City, is back on the calendar for July 15-16, 2017.

A block of 20 rooms for Saturday night, July 15th , has been reserved at the Stoney Creek Inn in downtown Sioux City under the “Schonesland Porsche Club”. You may call the Inn at 712-234-1100 to book your rooms.

There will be more info to follow in the coming two months, but this much I know……we’ll be going back to our favorite wine cellar for dinner Saturday evening, however, Luciano’s is under new ownership, and is now called “M’s on Fourth. The menu has been expanded and my Sioux City homeys tell me the food and service are quite good……and the rack prices for your wine with dinner is still the way it’s done….more to follow.

Please add this event on your calendars and make your plans to enjoy this exciting and beautiful drive, which is included in the National Historic Register of Scenic Byways.
