I was four years old when my uncle, Jack Henderson, the program director of 50,000 watt KCUL-AM in Fort Worth/Dallas, came to visit my family in 1959. He brought me around one hundred and fifty 45 RPM records from his station (duplicate copies that they no longer needed) and a small record player that played only 45s (not albums). I played those records day and night, completely wore them out. From that point, I wanted to be a disc jockey. But instead of going for the usual “comedic” approach most DJs took, I tried to be more informative by dropping in tidbits of a song’s background, something that always fascinated me. Originally with my “Classic Country Music Stories” site on Facebook (which is still going strong), and now with this book, I can tell the whole story, something that time restraints on radio wouldn’t allow. I began deejaying as a career at the age of sixteen in 1971, most notably at Nashville’s WENO-AM and WKDA- AM, Lakeland, Florida’s WPCV-FM (past winner of the “Radio Station of the Year” award from the Country Music Association), and Springfield, Missouri’s KTTS AM & FM and KWTO-AM, but with syndication and automation which overwhelmed radio some twenty-five years ago, my final DJ position ended in 1992.

Northern Nashville Country Music Club November 2010 Newsletter I can’t believe another week has flown by since the Club night it’s a scary thought, the shops are now full of Christmas things, time just disappears. Anyway we had a great night for our very special award show. Our support band for the night were two great guys from Lochinver who go under the name of Wood ’N Stone. It’s quite a time since we’ve had the duo in the Club as Pete is always busy with work commitments; however they were a refreshing change. Pete has a very nice laid back type of country voce, good hearing him sing numbers from the good old Colorado days and the late Davie Duff and Willie Anderson, lots of nostalgia and sentiment. Next on stage were Thomas Maguire and Fhiona Ennis who were delighted to have been voted our Band of the Year Winners for 2009, by the club members. The couple, who played as part of our 2010 Festival, have been very busy touring; their stage act is currently receiving glowing reviews and they have earned the reputation of country’s most popular duetting combination. Earlier this year they received Vocal Duo of the Year Award in Athlone and their new album Solid As A Rock has just reached the number one position in the country charts. The pair, who clearly enjoy what they do, gave a great nights entertainment with a cross section of music. Fhionna treated us to a few numbers on the sax and they sang some songs from their new album including Come Back to Ireland, written by band member Eugene.

Born in Scottsville, Kentucky, in 1938, Norris D. Wilson began his musical odyssey in 1957 as a member of the group Southlanders. In 1962, he began writing songs for Acuff-Rose. He recorded for several labels during the '60s and '70s, but only one of his singles-"Do It To Someone You Love"-reached the Top 20. Wilson scored consistently as a songwriter, however, co-writing such hits as "The Most Beautiful Girl," a No. 1 for Charlie Rich on both the country and pop charts; "A Very Special Love Song," which won a Grammy as best country song; and "The Grand Tour," a No. 1 for George Jones in 1974 and a Top 40 for Aaron Neville in 1993. Other Wilson standards include "Soul Song," Joe Stampley's first No. 1, and "Another Lonely Song," a chart-topper for Tammy Wynette. It has long collected and exhibited art together with artifacts, focusing on both individual pieces significant to the history of the state, and artists that have called the state home while pushing the form forward. Decorative arts can also often tell us as much about the periods in which they were created as material culture. In this issue, we focus on Tennessee art and artists during a time of rapid growth in both art influence and style — after the turn of the 19th century. Senior curator of art and architecture, Jim Hoobler, is your guide through notable paintings, sculpture and furniture from the Museum’s collection, much of it on display now. Elsewhere in the magazine, we highlight important new acquisitions that further inform our understanding of Tennessee history, like a sign denoting segregation on Nashville streetcars during the early 1900s. See TEX. CIV. PRAC. & REM. CODE ANN. § 51.014(a)(7) (West 2008). BACKGROUND George Baker Richardson, professionally known as George Richey, was a “nationally renowned” country music songwriter and musician who wrote such songs as “The Grand Tour” and “Picture of Me Without You.”1 He was the father of three children, including Hale, whom he had adopted in 1963. He was married to Tammy Wynette until her death in 1998. In 2001, George married Sheila Richey, and they lived together until his death on July 31, 2010. After George’s death, Sheila Richey (hereafter “Richey”) filed suit against Hale for defamation, public disclosure of private facts, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Richey alleged that after George’s death, she began to receive information via the internet and written publications that were outrageously false, defamatory, and extremely distressing to her, causing her anguish, embarrassment, and humiliation, especially, given her grief over the loss of her husband approximately two months before. One such national publication, printed on October 13, 2010, directly quoted Defendant Deirdre Hale as its source. In proffering these slanderous statements to the publication, Defendant knew or should have reasonably known that she created an unreasonable risk that such statements would be communicated to other parties.
