Best answer: Sorry gamers! FuboTV isn't available on PlayStation. Thankfully, cord-cutting sports enthusiasts can get their fix by picking up Google's $35 Chromecast dongle. Google's streaming dongle: Google Chromecast ($35 at Amazon) Subscribe to FuboTV: FuboTV (From $45/mo. at FuboTV) What competition? The PlayStation 4 is a great piece of kit capable of many things, but Sony is very strategic regarding the software allowed on its hardware. A delight for gamers, the PS4 has some of the best exclusive video games on the market. Toss in media options like Netflix, Hulu, Spotify and Sony's in-house digital video service and you've practically got a one-stop shop for entertainment. There is however a small catch here. Sony offers its own TV streaming platform and the company would much rather see you subscribe to its aptly named PlayStation Vue service before anything else. This is why PlayStation fans shouldn't expect to see FuboTV hitting their console's dashboard anytime soon. What makes FuboTV worthwhile? It may be tempting to stick all of your eggs in the PlayStation basket, but while Vue is a great service, you're here for sports. Right now, FuboTV is the best all around option for cord-cutting sports fans. A subscription can grant access to NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL games along with just about all the soccer you can handle . In addition to mainstream athletic contests, FuboTV has carved out a space for cycling enthusiasts with its own Fubo Cycling channel. This network features live UCI-governed races from around the world. Okay, now I really want FuboTV. Ready to give FuboTV a shot? You'll need some new hardware to get the service streaming on your TV. To accomplish this, we recommend Google's Chromecast. A simple HDMI plug-in media dongle that's light, unobtrusive, and plays nice with just about every streaming service. A minimalist approach, just plug in the device, pair it with your smartphone and start watching your favorite teams. One of the biggest selling points of cord-cutting is having the freedom to cancel and change services as you see fit. The Chromecast offers just that in a low-cost $35 package. The Sports button will probably be your best friend, as FuboTV is mainly a sports streaming service. You can browse the sports matches, select a specific sport, watch live games, see what’s coming up, etc. The Shows option is also very sleek and packed with content. You can browse by show genres, live, upcoming shows, and more. FuboTV will recommend new content every day, so if you’re all caught up with your current series, check out their picks. Movies are nearly the same as shows. There is an on-demand library of films, which are mostly classics. You can also filter them by genre. There are many other options, such as Recordings, the Guide, Video Controls, etc. Sports Fans Rejoice. FuboTV mainly aims at cord-cutters who love sports. You can watch basketball, football, baseball, soccer, and many others on FuboTV. True, there are many great shows and movies available too, but most people get it to watch their favorite major league teams. Unfortunately, FuboTV won’t be available on the Fire Tablet soon. Maybe that will change once, but until then, only the mentioned Fire devices support the FuboTV app. Do you like FuboTV? Do you like their channel selection and prices? International In-house Counsel Journal Vol. 11, No. 41, Autumn 2017, 1 The Future is Cordless: How the Cordless Future will Impact Traditional Television SABRINA JO LEWIS Director of Business Affairs, Paramount Television, USA Introduction A cord-cutter is a person who cancels a paid television subscription or landline phone connection for an alternative Internet-based or wireless service. Cord-cutting is the result of competitive new media platforms such as Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, iTunes and YouTube. As new media platforms continue to expand and dominate the industry, more consumers are prepared to cut cords to save money. Online television platforms offer consumers customized content with no annual contract for a fraction of the price. As a result, since 2012, nearly 8 million United States households have cut cords, according to Wall Street research firm MoffettNathanson.1 One out of seven Americans has cut the cord.2 Nielsen started counting internet-based cable-like service subscribers at the start of 2017 and their data shows that such services have at least 1.3 million customers and are still growing.3 The three most popular subscription video-on-demand (“SVOD”) providers are Netflix, Amazon Prime and HULU Plus. According to Entertainment Merchants Association’s annual industry report, 72% of households with broadband subscribe to an SVOD service.4 During a recent interview on CNBC, Corey Barrett, a senior media analyst at M Science, explained that Hulu, not Netflix, appears to be driving the recent increase in cord-cutting, meaning cord-cutting was most pronounced among Hulu subscribers.5 Some consumers may decide not to cut cords because of sports programming or the inability to watch live programing on new media platforms.

  • The Streaming Television Industry: Mature Or Still Growing?
The Streaming Television Industry: Mature or Still Growing? Johannes H. Snyman Metropolitan State University of Denver Debora J. Gilliard Metropolitan State University of Denver This paper is about the streaming television industry. It begins by defining the industry and provides a brief history of the television industry in general, from the first transatlantic television signal in 1928 to 2018. From that point, it emphasizes the streaming television industry, which started in 2007, when Netflix first streamed movies over the internet. The main section of the paper focuses on Michael Porter’s theory of the industry life cycle to determine the current stage of the industry. The research question is developed, proposing that the industry is in the growth phase. Then, the number of paid subscribers of the top streaming providers in 2018 is used to address the research question. The results indicate that the industry is in the growth phase. The final section provides an outlook for the industry’s future. Keywords: Streaming TV Industry, OTT TV, Growth Industry INTRODUCTION The television industry is rapidly changing, moving toward “over-the-top”, or streaming, television. Cord cutting is occurring as millennials and traditional viewers discontinue and unbundle their television, internet, and landline telephone services (Snyman & Gilliard, 2018). Millennials are keeping their monthly expenses down by subscribing to streaming services that provide the content they are interested in watching, and binge-watching of serial television shows is the new norm (Prastien, 2019). “Over-the-top” (OTT) television and “online video distribution” (OVD) are terms that originally referred to the streaming television services provided by Netflix, Hulu and Amazon.

ACM West Live Streaming A virtual Multichannel Video Provider vMVPD A virtual MVPD (vMVPD) is a service that provides multiple television channels through the internet without supplying its own data transport infrastructure (i.e. coaxial cable, fiber, or satellite technology). These services are also sometimes called “skinny bundles” as they often contain fewer channels than a traditional cable or satellite subscription. You may be familiar with some vMVPDs such as Sling TV, DirecTV Now, PlayStation Vue, Fubo, Philo, YouTube TV and Hulu Live. Increasingly, content is available as a vMVPD These vMVPD’s are most often delivered through... Some Statistics ● Virtual MVPD use is still small but growing rapidly. In April 2018, 5 percent (4.9MM) of U.S. households with Wi-Fi internet streamed a pure-play vMVPD on their television screen. This is a remarkable 58 percent increase in households from the year before. ● vMVPDs are being adopted by more than just the younger generations. In April 2017, 29 percent of households using a pure-play vMVPD had a head of household under age 35. In just one year, that percentage dropped eight points to only 21 percent, indicating a higher number of older viewers are now using vMVPDs. Also from Comscore But viewer/platform changes can benefit PEG media ● If one looks at the opportunities these new platforms offer, if not for the outdated funding model that does not include internet, there are many opportunities ● Social media is just another method of distribution, but it comes with ratings! ● These other platforms also support HD, on-demand viewing, and feedback.
