Foreword

National Power Training Institute (NPTI) an Apex Body of training in Power Sector has been offering earlier Post Graduate Diploma Course in Thermal Power Plant Engineering. Looking into the growth of upcoming Renewable Energy, the course has been re-designed as Post Graduate Diploma Course in Power Plant Engineering duly approved by the Governing Council of NPTI. The Post Graduate Diploma Course (PGDC) in Power Plant Engineering being offered by NPTI covers almost all types of power generation technologies which includes Thermal, Hydro, Gas based generation, Renewable Energy as well. The integration of all generations for all complex Network become unhealthy as on date with large penetration of Renewable Energy, and therefore, the design of course structure has been done to cover power plants in an integrated way.

The PGDC in Power Plant Engineering provides in-depth Power Management for effective and efficient operational improvements not only to the existing but also upcoming Renewable Energy in the Power Sector arena. The PGDC candidates in Power Plant Engineering have been trained not only through the class room training by the Experts in the relevant fields but also on the Power Simulators which comprises of 500 MW, 800 MW Supercritical and upcoming Multi-functional Simulators first time in India which includes Renewable Energy and intelligent operation with Smart Controls. The unique Simulator training provides the candidates an in-depth understanding of plant design and related methodology which helps the candidates to understand the real and correct plant operation well within the time, and thus the PGDC Candidates in Power Plant Engineering will be an asset to the Power Sector Organisations within India and abroad. I recommend the candidates for placement. The candidates have been thoroughly trained in all relevant areas of planning, design, management, erection and commissioning apart from operation and maintenance of integrated Power Plants. The Placement for the Session 2017-18 is now open for the Utilities and I invite all Power Generation Utilities to visit NPTI and get the best trained manpower for their respective power plants.

National Power Training Institute (NPTI) is an autonomous organization of the Ministry of Power, Govt. of India. NPTI is an ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 certified organization and is functioning as a National Apex body for Training and Human Resources Development in Power Sector with its Corporate Office at Faridabad. PGDC, NPTI Faridabad | 11 Why NPTI – Faridabad?

NPTI-Corporate office, Faridabad for more than one decade has been playing an imperative role in imparting Training to many power professionals.

It plays a vital role in growth of Power Sector and Power Managerial Education in India and other countries. NPTI Corporate Office, Faridabad starts 52 weeks Post graduate Diploma Course in Power Plant Engineering w.e.f from 07.08.17 to cater to the needs of various public and private players in power sector. The Program comprises of 22 Modules including Power Plant Operation & Maintenance, Scheme Tracing, Rotational on-job training (Operation & Maintenance) in a Thermal Power Station. It also includes 2 weeks Simulator Training in 500 MW Thermal Power Plant. The present intake of PGDC in PPE is 60 students.

NPTI also offers training to Professionals from various countries like Oman, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Bhutan, Ethiopia, Iraq, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Philippines, Sudan, Syria, Zambia, Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA), Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Libya etc. have also undergone training at NPTI's various training Institutes.

Post Graduate Diploma in Power Plant Engineering About the program The main aim of the course is to create a pool of technically trained manpower readily available for serving the State, Central and Private Power Utilities and allied Industries etc. All these organizations shall obviously prefer these trained Graduate Engineers as they are readily trained manpower. This PG diploma satisfies the mandatory requirement of Indian Electricity Rules.

Objective 1. To create trained engineers who can contribute to the sector by utilising their skills and knowledge for erection, commissioning and construction work in the existing as well as upcoming power plants. 2. To create healthy environment at the work place which may contribute in increasing performance, efficiency and PLF. 3. Floating quick and innovative ideas towards contribution of clean environment . 4. To learn and improvise in every step towards the excellency of the company.

Pedagogy It is an intensified course only being raised by a single purpose and sole purpose that is to make students duty sensitized and work efficiently in a power plant environment. Highly customized classrooms are there for correct grooming. Several grooming classes are being arranged for personality development based on the latest business need. Many industrial visit to power utilities and core sector are arranged to enrich the knowledge of trainees.

Program structure A one year full time course with two semesters. First semester emphasizes on power plant operation and maintenance, erection, commissioning and constructional details. It covers the greatest challenges to power plant and their operations to simulator training. Familiarization of thermal power plant to basics of gas turbine power plant and nuclear power plant familiarization.

Corporate Centre, Faridabad

NPTI's Corporate Centre campus is spread over a picturesque landscape of about 15 acres in Faridabad in the suburbs of New Delhi in the National Capital Region (NCR). The campus is located, just about 5 kms from New Delhi – Haryana border, about 30 kms from the International Airport and 25 kms from New Delhi Railway Station. The Campus houses the Institute building, Guest House, Hostels, Sports facilities and Residential quarters for the employees. The main Institute building houses lecture halls, Syndicate Room, Board Room, Library, a Real-time, Full-scope & DDC based Dual facility 500 MW Training Simulator, a 430 MW Full Scope Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Simulator, IT Centre, and the associated offices etc. A centrally air conditioned 275 seat capacity Auditorium with latest Audio/Video System has been established. A Conference Hall (55 seats) is also available for holding seminars, workshops and conferences. NPTI has exclusive multi-media Computer Based Training (CBT) Packages Development Centre. A GIS Resource Centre and a Computer Lab with 120 latest computer machines has also been established at the Corporate Office, Faridabad.

Hostels

Well-furnished Executive Hostel and Trainees Hostel with lodging and boarding facilities are available to accommodate about 550 trainees at NPTI Complex, Faridabad. Separate Girl's hostel with a capacity of 25 inmates is also available for female trainees. The campus is enabled with high speed WI-FI connection.

Library

NPTI's Corporate Centre library has a large collection of books and video packages on Modern Power Station Technology, various branches of Engineering, Computer Sciences, Industrial Relations, Management, Power Reforms, Regulatory issues, Attitudinal Reorientation etc. It also subscribes to a number of Indian and foreign technical journals and periodicals.

The Library has subscription to on-line journals like IEEE (ASPP), IEEE (POPc), Emerald, Cengage, J-Gate which meet the mandatory AICTE requirements as well as give access to the latest in research and case studies, interviews on various power and management journals. This facility has been provided to all students, faculties and trainees in the Campus.

As many as 85 Technical Manuals/Books have been published by NPTI with lucid presentations to enhance the conceptual understanding of various sub-systems. These are available at nominal prices for procurement by Power Utilities and Industries.

Sports Facilities

Indoor and outdoor, sports and games facilities such as Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Tennis, Table Tennis, Carom etc., have been developed and students/trainees are encouraged to avail these facilities. A full-fledged Gym has been set up for the trainees. Yoga classes are conducted to keep the students physically and mentally fit and to reduce stress. The Common Room and Gymnasium facilities at the Corporate Office, Faridabad have been renovated and the state-of-the-art facilities have been provided.
