A FLORISTIC INVENTORY OF CORKSCREW SWAMP SANCTUARY (COLLIER COUNTY AND LEE COUNTY), FLORIDA, U.S.A. George J. Wilder Jean M. Naples, Florida 34120-4800, U.S.A [email protected] [email protected] ABSTRACT Documented presently as growing wild within Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary (Collier Co. and Lee Co., Florida, U.S.A) are individuals of 126 families, 401 genera, 756 species, and 773 infrageneric taxa of vascular plants. Those data, combined with records from previous workers, yield a total of 770 species and 787 infrageneric taxa documented for the Sanctuary. Of the 773 infrageneric taxa documented presently, 611 (79.0%) are native to Florida. Herein, seven main kinds of habitats are recognized for the study area, and individual taxa inhabit one or more of those habitats. Twenty-nine presently reported infrageneric taxa are listed as Endangered (16 taxa) or Threatened in Florida (13 taxa). For South Florida, 36 infrageneric taxa listed as Extirpated (3 taxa), as Historical (5 taxa), or as Critically Imperiled (28 taxa) were documented during this study. RESUMEN Existen documentados individuos de 126 familias, 401 géneros, 756 especies, y 773 taxa infragenéricos de plantas vasculares que actual- mente crecen silvestres en Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary (Collier Co. y Lee Co., Florida, U.S.A). Estos datos, combinados con los registros de investigadores anteriores, dan un total de 770 especies y 787 taxa infragenéricos documentados para el Sanctuary. De los 773 taxa infra- genéricos documentados actualmente, 611 (79.0%) son nativos de Florida. -

DACS-P-00124 Volume 54, Number 4, July - August 2015 DPI’s Bureau of Entomology, Nematology and Plant Pathology (the botany section is included in this bureau) produces TRI- OLOGY six times a year, covering two months of activity in each issue. The report includes detection activities from nursery plant inspections, routine and emergency program surveys, and requests for identification of plants and pests from the public. Samples are also occasionally sent from other states or countries for identification or diagnosis. Highlights Section Reports Following are a few of the notable entries from this volume of TRI-OLOGY. One male oriental fruit fly was captured in a DPI fruit fly detection trap in Kendall, followed by another Plant Pathology 17 single male about 13 miles away in the Redland Agri- cultural District, followed by an astounding 45 males in Retirement 21 a single trap, also in Redland. Helicoverpa armigera , Old World bollworm, a new Continental USA record. This moth was collected in a survey trap in a tomato field. It is a major, polyphagous Old World pest that has become established in South Helicoverpa armigera (Old World America and, more recently, in Puerto Rico and the bollworm) This is the third specimen Dominican Republic. collected in Florida. Artículo de investigación La subtribu Plucheinae (Inuleae, Asteraceae) en México: taxonomía, diversidad y distribución The subtribe Plucheinae (Inuleae, Asteraceae) in Mexico: taxonomy, diversity, and distribution Rosario Redonda-Martínez1,2 Resumen: Antecedentes y Objetivos: La subtribu Plucheinae es un grupo escasamente representado en México y por ello no debería presentar problemas taxonómicos. Sin embargo, esto no es así, pues se han confundido taxones con hábitos de crecimiento contrastantes como Pluchea carolinensis y P. odorata. Además, se ha reportado la presencia de especies de otros países debido a identificación errónea, de ahí la necesidad de generar un trata- miento taxonómico actualizado. El objetivo de este trabajo es presentar una sinopsis taxonómica actualizada de las Plucheinae mexicanas, incluyendo claves de identificación y descripciones de géneros y especies. Métodos: Se hizo una revisión de trabajos florístico-taxonómicos de las tribus Inuleae y Plucheeae realizados previamente en México, para generar un listado actualizado de especies mexicanas que posteriormente se cotejó con ejemplares herborizados depositados en las colecciones científicas mexicanas ENCB, FCME, IEB y MEXU, además de herbarios en línea de los Estados Unidos de América. Resultados clave: En México, Pluchea es el género más diverso de la subtribu Plucheinae y de distribución más amplia, agrupa ocho especies y dos categorías infraespecíficas, se encuentra en 27 estados. Oaxaca y Veracruz concentran el mayor número de especies, y la menor diversidad está en Aguascalientes, Ciudad de México y Durango, donde se registra únicamente un taxón. Las Plucheinae ocurren en elevaciones desde el nivel del mar hasta 3100 m s.n.m. y tienen afinidad por ambientes con humedad elevada. -
