Extreme Geeky FunBy Adam GrahamThe Eleventh Doctor and Alice are taken prisoner and the Eleventh Doctor is about to be executed after having been convicted in absentia for crimes he allegedly committed while the War Doctor. Soon, he's on the run and looking for the truth and he and Alice are joined by the others. There's the Squire who claims to have been a companion during the Time War, and then there's Absalom Daak, a violent anti-hero so tough that Doctor Who Magazine couldn't hold him.The book features some really fine characterization of the Eleventh Doctor, capturing his voice and tone perfectly. There's clearly an emotional journey going on for the Doctor and Alice is a great grounding for the reader. The story is a fine mystery and keeps thrwing one mind-blowing blot twist at you after another. This was a story that had me fully and completely engaged. The guest characters are both fun with Daak being unpredictable and the Squire being part of the mystery. The titular monster for the book is awesome but is almost blown away by everything else featured in this book.If that's not enough, as a break from all the intense action each issue has a cute 1-2 page light comic short featuring the Doctor, Amy, and Rory.Overall, this is just delightful and one of Titan's absolute best Doctor Who releases.0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. The Doctor goes (back) to Warhellip;By Squirr-ElDoctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor Vol.4: The Then and the Now (Uk Edition) collects #1-5 of ldquo;Year Twordquo; of Titan Booksrsquo; 11th Doctor comic book. This starts in the middle of a story - the circumstances of which is explained by Alice in a series of sarcastic comments as she and the Doctor attempt to escape from the trap they walked into; though the opening page features the unnumbered War Doctor (8.1? 8frac12;?). This is a full five-issue story, which rolls over into the next volume, with guest-stars galore, including Absalom Daak and [spoiler].Anyway, this story hits the ground running, and, thanks to a bounty placed on his head by a race dying because of the actions of the War Doctor, continues to run, all the way back to the Time War, and then forward again. It is all too complicated to explain, and anyway that would spoil it for you.One of the two writers is known for his mind-bending plots - see his recent Cable X-Force series for Marvel - and the artists also have form, so expect the unexpected, but also watch out for familiar signs and sights that warn you of what may or may not be coming up in subsequent episodes. This is one of the best of the Titan Doctor Who volumes that I have yet read; even the cartoony artwork works spectacularly well for this Doctor, as it catches his different moods in a way that traditional comic-book art might not. The Eleventh Doctor and Alice return for a second year of time-twisting adventures!Accused of terrible war crimes that he can't remember committing, the Eleventh Doctor goes on the run with his companion Alice Obiefune, along with a mysterious amnesiac who calls herself The Squire! As they dig deep into the history of the Time War in hope of clearing the Doctor's name, the bounty hunter called The Then and The Now, a hideous perversion of spacetime, tracks them at every turn! The brainchild of Portsmouth Guildhall and Tripwire Magazine, the convention will feature guest panels, signings, showcases, competitions, cosplay, special events and merchandise, meaning there is something for everyone across the weekend. The weekend is set to be the biggest comic con on the south coast, with a projected 10,000 visitors descending upon the historic Portsmouth Guildhall for the event. The show will also celebrate the 80th anniversary of the first appearance of Superman, the art of HBO’s Game of Thrones, go behind the scenes on Doctor Who and it will also pay tribute to the art of comics in general. Portsmouth International Comic Con will feature artists from all over the world, including French artists like Bengal and Claire Wendling, British artists Laurence Campbell and Mark Buckingham, Rafael Albuquerque from Brazil and American artists such Tommy Lee Edwards and Gene Ha.
