These are issues such as slow response time, students submitting papers that do not show up on the instructor's side, timing out in the composing space, and so. Many of these issues can be resolved by changing browser settings. The following section has the procedures for the recommended Internet Explorer® settings on PCs; the Firefox™ procedures for PCs and Macs start on page 3, and the Safari® procedures start on page 4. Internet Explorer: Recommended Settings (PC) Check for New Versions of Stored Pages 1. Start Internet Explorer. 2. Click the Tools > Internet Options menu command. 3. Click the General tab 4. Under Browsing History, click the Settings button. The Temporary Internet Files and History Settings dialog box is displayed. 5. Select Every time I visit the web page under Check for newer versions of stored pages. 6. Click OK, then OK again. Trusted Sites and Protected Mode (Windows Vista® and Windows 7) 1. Start Internet Explorer. 2. Click the Tools > Internet Options menu command. 3. Click the Security tab 4. Click the Trusted Sites icon on the Security tab. 5. Uncheck the Enable Protected Mode check box. 6. Click the Sites button 7. Uncheck the Require server verification . check box. 1 8. Add the following addresses to the Add this Web site to the zone text box. Add the first address, click the Add button, then repeat the process to add the second address. Make sure to include the asterisk (*). *.mycomplab *.pearsoncmg.com 9. After adding these addresses, click the Close button, then click OK. Note: When you navigate to a site in the Trusted sites zone, Internet Explorer will display a Warning. Click Yes to load the page. Pop-up Blockers 1. Start Internet Explorer. 2. Click the Tools > Pop-up Blocker > Pop-up Blocker Settings menu command. The Pop-up Blocker Settings window is displayed. 3. Add the following addresses to the Address of this website to allow text box. Add the first address, click the Add button, then repeat the process to add the second address. Make sure to include the asterisk (*). *.pearsoned.com *.pearsoncmg.com 4. After adding the addresses, click the Close button. 5. Click the View > Toolbars (or Tools > Toolbars) menu command. 6. Uncheck any item in the Toolbars menu except Menu Bar. The menu closes after you uncheck an item, so you need to repeat steps 5 and 6 for each toolbar item. Note: Many toolbars (including Yahoo and Google) use pop-up blockers, which is why they may need to be disabled while you are using the MyLab. Cookies 1. Start Internet Explorer. 2. Click the Tools > Internet Options menu command. 3. Click the Privacy tab. 4. Click the Advanced button. The Advanced Privacy Settings window is displayed. 5. Check (select) Override automatic cookie handling. 6. Check (select) Always allow session cookies. 7. Select Accept under First-party Cookies. You do not need to make any changes to the Third-party cookies. 8. Click OK, then OK again. 2 Firefox: Recommended Settings (PC/Mac) Allowed Add-ons 1. Start Firefox. 2. Do one of the following: In Windows: Click the Tools > Options . command. In Mac OS X: Click the Firefox > Preferences command. 3. Click the Security icon at the top of the Options window. 4. Click the topmost Exceptions button. (Do not click the Exceptions button for Passwords.) The Allowed Sites – Add-ons Installation window is displayed. 5. Add the following addresses to the Address of web site text box. Add the first address, click the Allow button, then repeat the process to add the second address. Make sure to include the asterisk (*). *.mycomplab.com *.pearsoncmg.com 6. After adding these sites, click Close, then OK. Pop-up Blockers 1. Start Firefox. 2. Do one of the following: In Windows: Click the Tools > Options . command. In Mac OS X: Click the Firefox > Preferences command. 3. Click the Content icon at the top of the Options window. 4. Make sure that Block pop-up windows is not checked. 5. Click OK to close the Options window. 6. Click the View > Toolbars command. 7. Uncheck any item in the Toolbars menu except Menu Bar, Navigation Toolbar, and Bookmarks Toolbar. The menu closes after you uncheck an item, so you need to repeat steps 6 and 7 for each toolbar item. Select Use custom settings for history (or Use Custom History) from the Firefox will drop-down list. 3 5. Check (select) Accept cookies from sites. 6. Check (select) Accept third-party cookies. 7. Click OK. Safari: Recommended Settings (Mac) General Settings 1. Open Safari. 2. Go to Preferences (Safari Menu> Preferences or Command + comma). 3. Select Security (the lock icon). 4. Under Web Content, check (select): Enable Plug-ins Enable Java Enable JavaScript Uncheck Block Pop-up windows Accept Cookies: Always Extensions In Safari 5.0.1, Apple introduced Extensions which are various add-ons. The following extensions are known to cause issues with multimedia sites such as MyCompLab and MyLiteratureLab. Click-to-Flash (Flash Blocker) Any of the bookmarking Extensions (you should not bookmark anything except www.mycomplab.com and/or www.myliteraturelab). JavaScript Blacklist Last Pass and Mitto Password Manager (in case your password changes) Pelotero Proxy Service (may interfere with session) Safari Restore (attempts to restore your session automatically after crashes or closing of Safari) Any of the font extensions (may interfere with text loading within the player) 4 .
