Their calendar will have events from a number of sources and may have some events that do not end up listed here, so you should check it out. The calendar is at http://equalitymaine.org/calendar To send an event to Equality Maine for listing on their calendar, please e-mail events to [email protected] with the following information included and Equality Maine will add them to the calendar: Name: Date & Time: Website (if applicable): Contact (either email or phone, required): Anything Else: ANNOUNCEMENTS : This category is for non-social notices about GLBTQI community members that you think other GLBTQI community members might like to know about...things like: births, deaths, adoptions, commitments, graduations, promotions, awards, shows, ongoing classes, trying-to-start-a-group, etc. #1 : Trans Youth Equality Foundation summer and fall camp registration is open now. This popular camp is for ages 7-20 and is for all transgender, transsexual and gender non conforming youth. The camp is in a confidential location in Maine, it is beautiful, on a lake and one can choose between kayaking, canoeing, hiking, arts ,archery and many more activities. The food is great, the staff is great, there is 24/7 medical personnel. We have support groups and workshops for the older kids such as know your rights, sex ed not cis style and more. Bonfires at night! This welcoming camp is August 15-17 and October 10-12. Cost: $185. We pick up at the bus, train and airport in Portland. Scholarships available. Parade and Festival are on June 21, 2014, but we're having a huge Launch Party on May 15 to kick things off and to get everyone in the spirit of Pride season. At the Port City Music Hall , 504 Congress Street, Portland, Maine 04101. Portland Public Health and Peabody Outreach will be setting up a mobile unit in front of Blackstones on Pine Street near Longfellow Square on Saturday, May 17th. They will be offering free Hepatitis C, Syphilis and HIV testing for men who have sex with men. The unit will be open from 4pm-8pm and 9pm-midnight. May 20 (Tuesday). Portland . Down East Pride Alliance (“DEPA”) Networking Event . Join DEPA at Join DEPA at the VINLAND at 593 Congress Street from 5:30 – 7:30 P.M. in downtown Portland, Maine. Vinland is Maine's first 100% local food restaurant, specializing in dishes made entirely of Maine-based products. JUNE June 13 (Friday) Portland Outright Prom . 7:30 - 10:30 P.M. at the Holiday Inn by the Bay. Ages 14 – 22. This years prom is a "FRIDAY THE 13TH" themed event celebrating: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer, Questioning & allied young people, ages 14-22! Tickets: $15 (sliding scale/pay what you can & free tickets available). This year's Prom is "FRIDAY THE 13TH" themed so drag out your best witchy, spooky, creepy attire, grab your crystals, your black cat, and fly your broom over! This annual event has been a staple in the the young LGBTQQ+ and allied community in Maine. It was created as an effort to ensure that LGBTQQ+ young people could have a Prom experience that was safe, validating, and fun. A Prom where young people can dress up and go to Prom in the ways that reflects their respective genders and sexualities. Many school Proms are now more inclusive but we still think it's important to offer the Outright Prom as a reminder that not all schools are affirming and as a celebration of LGBTQQ+ young people in Maine! Bangor Pride Art Walk 2014 : {BEYOND BINARY} OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS & WRITERS APPLICATION DEADLINE Friday, May 30, 2014 • SUBMISSIONS DUE Monday, June 16, 2014 • ART WALK Friday, June 27, 2014 Bangor Pride Festival is proud to announce an open call for our second annual Art Walk and Spoken Word event! Exhibition projects should reflect the theme of 2 “BEYOND BINARY”. {BEYOND BINARY} We are taught to expect that everything in life falls into neat, either/or categories: Off or on, up or down, yes or no, black or white, male or female, gay or straight. But beyond these dividing lines lie beauty, inspiration, and lessons to learn. What will you find when you explore life Beyond Binary? Bangor Pride Art Walk 2014 invites all writers and artists of all disciplines and media to submit work that explores the idea of {BEYOND BINARY} as it relates to Bangor, our GLBTQIA community, the ongoing struggle for equality for all persons, and the history and recent events that have formed our time and place. All interpretations of this theme are welcomed and encouraged. The Art Walk and Spoken Word event will be held in Downtown Bangor on the evening of June 27, 2014. Venues and times are still being determined and will be announced no later than June 13th. Accepted spoken word and performance art submissions will be performed during the event. We are looking for Poetry, Short Stories or Essays, Painting, Printmaking, Drawing, Collage, Photography, Sculpture, Wheatpasting, Fiber Arts, Dance and Performance Art, Reuse and Upcycling art, Musicians. Bangor Pride Art Walk 2014 is a great opportunity to have your work/project showcased in an art-friendly, gay-friendly community, to be in touch with artists, curators, and professionals in the Greater Bangor Area, and to be part of a larger discourse about equality and contemporary art. We welcome any form of art and any art work collectives. If you are a duo/trio or a group of artists wanting to exhibit together please apply! Please note, artists may be asked to install their work at the venue on the day of the event.
