The intent of the study is to solicit community input on the current status and perceived needs of the neighborhood; to provide a land use plan to guide future development on Lake Street; to assess the economic marketability of the Lake Street corridor; to promote mixed uses and pedestrian- oriented development; to assess parking needs and traffic; to identify economic limitations and funding strategies; to develop a character plan to guide future architectural and infrastructure design on the corridor; to identify zoning and regulatory changes needed to support desired development; and to identify buildings with historic character and significance that should be preserved during future redevelopment. This architectural historical survey addresses the last of these various goals established by the Village. Most but not all of the study area is included within the Ridgeland-Oak Park Historic District. The study area includes numerous contributing buildings for the district, as well as non-contributing contemporary structures. This architectural historical survey report has been developed as part of the overall planning study for the Lake Street corridor by Solomon Cordwell Buenz, Chicago, Illinois, scheduled for completion in December 2006.

Annually since 2011, Oak Park, River Forest and Forest Park gather their resources and talents to celebrate seniors—the older adults who continue to play such a vital role in our communities. The Celebrating Seniors Coalition originated after a flood (as many creation stories start) and today is a valuable resource for emergency needs, cooperation between agencies, raising awareness of services for older neighbors, and highlighting issues that impact those over 60. In 2008 the Des Plaines River overflowed and many seniors were in trouble. Generous community members jumped in to help in the recovery e orts. The volunteers wanted to set up a resource bank for our older neighbors who may need some extra supports in the future. Anyone under age 21 caught purchasing or possessing tobacco products will face a minimum $25 fine for the first offense once the law goes into effect. The minimum penalty for anyone selling tobacco products to customers under 21 was increased to $100. The new Village ordinance also makes it illegal for anyone under 21 years old to sell tobacco products, but implementation of that section of the law was delayed until Aug. 1, 2017 to give merchants sufficient time to make any necessary etting around Oak Park by bike is becoming easier than ever for residents and staffing changes. This year the Trust is going through the process of reaccreditation by the Alliance of American Museums. Every ten years, the AAM reconfirms that our mission and values guide all of the Trust’s policies, daily operations, programs and initiatives. They verify that these values are shared by the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers and Trust membership. AAM reviews the Trust’s accomplishments of the past ten years and our present state of Dining room detail, J. Kibben Ingalls House best practice as an American museum. This issue of Wright Angles includes some of the student class photos. Many of their classroom teachers have participated in the Trust’s nationally known Teaching by Design program, our signature education initiative of the past decade. Future plans are built on the foundation of past success. This year’s Wright Plus weekend marks the 47th consecutive year of this Oak Park-River Forest event.
