Oprah’s Book Club When Oprah Winfrey added a book discussion segment on her talk show in June of 1996, she inadvertently started the most famous book club in the country. Most books chosen for the club became instant bestsellers. The original book club ended when The Oprah Winfrey Show went off the air in 2011. The club was relaunched in 2012 as Oprah’s Book Club 2.0.
