Telecommunications standards-setting in Singapore is achieved with the assistance of TSAC, where professional, trade and consumer interest in telecommunications standards is represented on the TSAC with representatives from network and service operators, equipment suppliers and manufacturers, academia and researchers, professional bodies and other government agencies. This Specification defines the requirements for the Integrated Receiver Decoder (IRD) functionality which may be incorporated as a standalone module such as a Set-Top Box (STB), an Integrated Digital Television (IDTV) or any other similar device intended for use with the second generation Digital Terrestrial Television broadcasting system (DVB-T2). The requirements for advanced features such as Personal Video Recorders (PVRs) and interactive services are not included in the scope of this Specification.

ITU-R BT.1301 1 RECOMMENDATION ITU-R BT.1301* Data services in digital terrestrial television broadcasting (Question ITU-R 31/6) (1997) The ITU Radiocommunication Assembly, considering a) that digital terrestrial television broadcasting (DTTB) will be introduced in the VHF/UHF bands; b) that an efficient service identification mechanism is essential due to the flexible and complex nature of the service; c) that conventional television broadcasting systems already provide means to convey ancillary data; d) that subtitling is an important service in an increasing number of countries; e) that the present introduction of various multimedia services in other media is expected to stimulate the interest for a broadcast multimedia service; f) that such a service may give broadcasters opportunities to provide completely new services as well as promoting existing services; g) that commonality of identification of different data services is desirable, recommends 1 that if DTTB systems include data services, these services should conform to one or more of the following: – ancillary data based on the specifications defined in Annex 1; – subtitling based on the specifications defined as specified in Annex 2; – broadcast multimedia services based on the specifications defined in Annex 3. ITU-R BO.650-2 1 RECOMMENDATION ITU-R BO.650-2*,** Standards for conventional television systems for satellite broadcasting in the channels defined by Appendix 30 of the Radio Regulations (1986-1990-1992) The ITU Radiocommunication Assembly, considering a) that the introduction of the broadcasting-satellite service offers the possibility of reducing the disparity between television standards throughout the world; b) that this introduction also provides an opportunity, through technological developments, for improving the quality and increasing the quantity and diversity of the services offered to the public; additionally, it is possible to take advantage of new technology to introduce time-division multiplex systems in which the high degree of commonality can lead to economic multi-standard receivers; c) that it will no doubt be necessary to retain 625-line and 525-line television systems; d) that broadcasting-satellite services are being introduced using analogue composite coding according to Annex 1 of Recommendation ITU-R BT.470 for the vision signal; e) that it is generally intended that broadcasting-satellite standards should facilitate the maximum utilization of existing terrestrial equipment, especially that which concerns individual and community reception media (receivers, cable, re-broadcasting methods of distribution etc.). About Teletext Component APIs The Teletext component is included in the Using Teletext Component APIs Video Startup extension which is part of the TeleText Component APIs Apple Video Player software. The component provides a standard API for accessing the References Teletext hardware available on the Downloadables international and UK tuner cards. See Inside Macintosh: QuickTime and Inside Macintosh: QuickTime Components for further documentation. Note: This document assumes you have used Teletext before and understand the basic functionality from a user point of view. [Oct 1 1995] About Teletext Component APIs The Apple international and UK tuner cards include Teletext decoding hardware. The hardware also includes an Teletext page cache (currently 512K, but this will change in the future). The Teletext decoder hardware automatically decodes each Teletext page as it is received by the TV tuner and places it in the page cache. The page cache can store up to 512 of the most recently received pages. Because most Teletext systems broadcast fewer than 512 pages, the page cache contains almost every available Teletext page. This provides immediate access to any page on the system. Teletext Page Data The Teletext page data consists of 25 lines of data, each containing 40 characters. Each character may be a visible text character, a graphics character, or a special control character. Control characters are used to set text color, text size, text or graphics mode, etc. Interpretation of the control codes is not terribly complex, but is beyond the scope of this document.
