Hank Aaron Leaves Inspiring Legacy For UBS marketing purposes Henry Louis "Hank" Aaron, the Hall of Fame slugger whose 755 career home runs long stood as baseball's golden mark, has died. He was 86. (UBS) Athletes and Entertainers Hank Aaron leaves inspiring legacy 25 January 2021, 2:47 pm CET, written by UBS Editorial Team Hank Aaron, one of baseball’s greatest all-around players, died Friday, aged 86, leaving behind an inspiring legacy. Many will likely remember Aaron’s composure and grace as he endured racist threats during his pursuit of Babe Ruth’s home run record, as much as his numerous achievements on the diamond. As well as being a 25-time All-Star, an MVP and a three-time Gold Glove, Aaron ended his career as Major League Baseball’s all-time home run leader with 755. He had taken the crown from the New York Yankees' great Babe Ruth and later lost it to San Francisco Giants legend Barry Bonds. President of The Players Alliance, and former Major League All-Star outfielder, Curtis Granderson stated that "we lost one of our game’s greatest icons, Hank Aaron. A devoted civil rights activist, his lasting impact will forever be measured well beyond his “Hammerin’ Hank” home run swing." "On behalf of the players that make up the Alliance, we owe a debt of gratitude for all Hank Aaron did for our game and our country’s movement toward equality. We send our deepest condolences to his family in the wake of his passing," Granderson said. The Players Alliance, made-up of over 100 black current and former professional baseball players, united to use their collective voice and platform to create increased opportunities for the black community in every aspect of baseball and beyond. UBS is an advisor to The Players Alliance, providing the organization and members with financial education and guidance to help them achieve their goals. "As we reflect on the loss of a legend both on and off the field, we are focused on supporting The Players Alliance to further Hank’s message among the community he was so passionate about. We look forward to extending our resources For UBS marketing purposes to the organization and it’s members to help continue to empower and impact our future generations," Ryne Kirby, UBS Advisor to The Players Alliance said. Off the field, Aaron was an activist for civil rights, having been a victim of racial inequalities, and was an inspiration for many within The Players Alliance. During the buildup to his passing of Ruth's home run mark, threats were made on his life by people who did not want to see a black man break the home run record. Over the years, Aaron would be praised for his quiet resolve and dignity in the face of the threats. He would dine with international heads of state and every sitting president from Gerald Ford to Barack Obama, but the negative response from so many of his countrymen was a scar he would carry for the rest of his life, according to ESPN. Wale Ogunleye, UBS Head of Sports and Entertainment, (and former NFL Pro-Bowler), said "It saddens me deeply to hear of the loss of my hero, Hank Aaron. Sometimes we use the words 'pioneer' and 'icon' too freely, but in his case, the words ring true to his life and legacy." "I say confidently that without Hammerin’ Hank Aaron, many other athletes and I would not be in the positions we are today. His fight for human rights, decency and equality cements him in our country’s history as an America Hero," Ogunleye said. Aaron played in the majors for 23 years from 1954 to 1976. He played for the Milwaukee and Atlanta Braves and finished his career with the Milwaukee Brewers. Aaron was enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982, receiving 97.8% approval in his first year on the ballot. In 1999, MLB created the Hank Aaron Award, given annually to the best hitter in both the AL and NL. In a special UBS white paper, eight athletes and entertainers share their stories on wealth and legacy. Creating a legacy is certainly something Hank Aaron did, with words and actions that matter, changing the world beyond just sports. • Top Sluggers and Their Home Run Breakdowns
Best of Baseball Prospectus: 1996-2011 Part 1: Offense 6 APRIL 22, 2004 : http://bbp.cx/a/2795 HANK AARON'S HOME COOKING Top Sluggers and Their Home Run Breakdowns Jay Jaffe One of the qualities that makes baseball unique is its embrace of non-standard playing surfaces. Football fields and basketball courts are always the same length, but no two outfields are created equal. As Jay Jaffe explains via a look at Barry Bonds and the all-time home run leaderboard, a player’s home park can have a significant effect on how often he goes yard. It's been a couple of weeks since the 30th anniversary of Hank Aaron's historic 715th home run and the accompanying tributes, but Barry Bonds' exploits tend to keep the top of the all-time chart in the news. With homers in seven straight games and counting at this writing, Bonds has blown past Willie Mays at number three like the Say Hey Kid was standing still, which— congratulatory road trip aside—he has been, come to think of it. Baseball Prospectus' Dayn Perry penned an affectionate tribute to Aaron last week. In reviewing Hammerin' Hank's history, he notes that Aaron's superficially declining stats in 1968 (the Year of the Pitcher, not coincidentally) led him to consider retirement, but that historian Lee Allen reminded him of the milestones which lay ahead. Two years later, Aaron became the first black player to cross the 3,000 hit threshold, two months ahead of Mays. By then he was chasing 600 homers and climbing into some rarefied air among the top power hitters of all time.

  • Illegal, but Not Against the Rules Commentary by Shanin Specter OK
August 9, 2007 Illegal, but not against the rules Commentary By Shanin Specter OK, so Barry Bonds did it. What should we think? Many believe Bonds used steroids to break Hank Aaron's home run record, but that's only a beginning point for analysis. Here's the polestar: As legendary manager John McGraw said about baseball, "The main idea is to win. " What circumscribes this creed? Only the rules of baseball. If a runner stealing second knows the fielder's tag beat his hand to the base, but the umpire calls him safe, should he stay on the base? Yes. If an outfielder traps a fly ball, can he play it as if he caught it? Yes. The uninitiated might consider this to be fraud or immoral. But some deception is part of the game. This conduct is appropriate simply because it's not forbidden by the rules. Baseball isn't golf. There's no honor code. Yankee Alex Rodriguez's foiling a pop-up catch by yelling may have been bush league, but umpires imposed no punishment. Typical retaliation would be a pitch in the ribs in the next at-bat - assault and battery in the eyes of the law, but just part of the game of baseball. Baseball has a well-oiled response to cheating. Pitchers who scuff the ball are tossed out of that game and maybe the next one, too. Players who cork bats face a similar fate. Anyone thought to be engaged in game- fixing is banned for life. No court of public opinion or law has overturned that sentence.

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL WEEKLY NOTES FRIDAY, JULY 28, 2017 BLACKMON WORKING TOWARD HISTORIC SEASON On Sunday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Coors Field, Colorado Rockies All-Star outfi elder Charlie Blackmon went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and his 24th home run of the season. With the round-tripper, Blackmon recorded his 57th extra-base hit on the season, which include 20 doubles, 13 triples and his aforementioned 24 home runs. Pacing the Majors in triples, Blackmon trails only his teammate, All-Star Nolan Arenado for the most extra-base hits (60) in the Majors. Blackmon is looking to become the fi rst Major League player to log at least 20 doubles, 20 triples and 20 home runs in a single season since Curtis Granderson (38-23-23) and Jimmy Rollins (38-20-30) both accomplished the feat during the 2007 season. Since 1901, there have only been seven 20-20-20 players, including Granderson, Rollins, Hall of Famers George Brett (1979) and Willie Mays (1957), Jeff Heath (1941), Hall of Famer Jim Bottomley (1928) and Frank Schulte, who did so during his MVP-winning 1911 season. Charlie would become the fi rst Rockies player in franchise history to post such a season. If the season were to end today, Blackmon’s extra-base hit line (20-13-24) has only been replicated by 34 diff erent players in MLB history with Rollins’ 2007 season being the most recent. It is the fi rst stat line of its kind in Rockies franchise history. Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig is the only player in history to post such a line in four seasons (1927-28, 30-31).
