We had to walk through two other dorms to get to our dorm and there was a door to the next dorm. At lunch we got to vote for a movie to watch, the choices were High School Musical, Frozen and Teen beach movie. Obviously high school musical won. After lunch we went to the PE hall and played a game where we were given a dog breed and when it was called we had to crawl along the ground to reach th bone in the middle. We ate dinner and went to the entrance hall to watch the movie and we got drinks and popcorn. We went to bed, well everyone else did! We also known as dorm three stayed up all night. Saturday—We got the bus at 9.15am to Liliput. When we got there we were split into groups. Eva, Hannah, Re- becca and others were on my team. We did rock climbing first and then laser tag. After we did orienteering and lastly capture the flag. Everyone loved Liliput and we were really tired when we got back. Luckily not too tired for our crown and gown which was where you had to make a dress and hat out of newspaper. Sunday— We had a brilliant service in the chapel with Emma. Afterwards we did some crafts, then we went down to our dorms to tidy them. Once we had tidied our dorms we went to the main hall for the prize giving. All in all a wonderful weekend away. BB & GFS Closing Service BB & GFS Photos— Party, RegionalTournament, This year the service will take Regional Craft Evening & Diocesan Service place on Sunday 10th June in Edenderry at 11.30am followed by badge and awards Presentation in Church Walk. Confirmation After all our preparations confirmation day arrived on 20th May, as our eight candi- dates were confirmed by Bishop Pat. It was a very emotive and uplifting service. Well done to our young people for whom we continue to pray : Avril Whittle Ben Montayne, Rebecca Alexander, Emma Carter, Peter Gardiner , Ella Gerber, Brian Moody and Aidan Moody. The front of the order of service sheet hosted a dove which was coloured and marked with all the individual finger prints of the candidates, marking their uniqueness, individuality and their talents/gifts from God. Preparations were enjoyed by all, and our last class we had a tea party—symbolizing the importance of sharing, listening and being in communion with one another. Rathangan hosted the teaching Eucharist, on Sunday 29th April. We pray that they will continue to serve God and find their place within the life and worship of our church. Database of Irish Historical Statistics - Language Notes 1 Language Notes on Language (Barony) From the census of 1851 onwards information was sought on those who spoke Irish only and those bi-lingual. However the presentation of language data changes from one census to the next between 1851 and 1871 but thereafter remains the same (1871-1891). Spatial Unit Table Name Barony lang51_bar Barony lang61_bar Barony lang71_91_bar County lang01_11_cou Barony geog_id (spatial code book) County county_id (spatial code book) Notes on Baronies of Ireland 1821-1891 Baronies are sub-division of counties their administrative boundaries being fixed by the Act 6 Geo. IV., c 99. Their origins pre-date this act, they were used in the assessments of local taxation under the Grand Juries. Over time many were split into smaller units and a few were amalgamated. Townlands and parishes - smaller units - were detached from one barony and allocated to an adjoining one at vaious intervals. This the size of many baronines changed, albiet not substantially. Furthermore, reclamation of sea and loughs expanded the land mass of Ireland, consequently between 1851 and 1861 Ireland increased its size by 9,433 acres. The census Commissioners used Barony units for organising the census data from 1821 to 1891. These notes are to guide the user through these changes. From the census of 1871 to 1891 the number of subjects enumerated at this level decreased In addition, city and large town data are also included in many of the barony tables. 10th March 2019 FIERST SUNDAY OF LENT Edenderry Fr. P.J. McEvoy P.P Edenderry Tempted to Distraction 046 9732352 If we are not criminals, and we don’t particularly consider 087 2524843 ourselves to be sinners, do we really need to worry about Sr Áine Small the devil, or the dangers of temptation? If the temptations Parish Centre in our lives are simply to sit at the computer too long, or 046 9733311 indulge in the odd tipple, how much does that really matter? On the first Sunday of Lent we are always treated to the same lesson. We are asked to consider what we are about, how the devil Deacon Paul Wyer might put spanners in the works, and what we can do about it. Today the devil 086 6086154 finds Jesus in the wilderness. He finds him when he is hungry and weak and Parish Office tempts him with attractive options, food, fame and protection. We don’t see 046 9733311 Jesus dithering, not even for a minute. Jesus is able to put the temptation behind him because he knows what he is about. Jesus understands his mission FAX : 046-9773576 and it isn’t about materialistic benefit or power. Jesus is able to put aside the E-mail: temptation because he is confident that the same Holy Spirit that has taken him edenderryparish into the wilderness will lead him back out. The wilderness comes in all shapes [email protected] and sizes. For us it could be moments when we’re feeling lost, broken, unloved, tired or overburdened.

Offaly Development Plan 2021-2027 submission. Offaly needs to reinvent itself urgently. Since the 1940's the County has been sustained by Bord na Mona and the residual peat burning power stations in Rhode, Portarlington, Lumcloon and Shannonbridge. In addition there were briquette making factories at Mountlucas and Derrinlough. The threatened demise of all this activity requires an urgent response. A reinvigorated Offaly can contribute greatly to the future of the midlands and Ireland. The County has significant resources not least its people and the large tracts of lands owned by Bord na Mona , OPW ,Parks and Wildlife and Coillte. The Council needs to lead the preparation of a strategy for the future regeneration of the County. Fergal Mc Cabe has already articulated an approach to the regeneration of Tullamore which I wholeheartedly endorse. Tullamore is fortunate that there are a number of key Town Centre sites ripe for development. The towns of Birr, Clara, Portarlington, and Edenderry likewise need investment. While smaller settlements like Banagher, Daingean, Ferbane, Kinnity, Kilcormac and Shannonbridge, are significant service and Educational Centres. Accessibility and Connectivity are key to the future. Accessibility between Offaly and the rest of the world requires the urgent development of the N52/N80 links from the M 6 at Kilbeggan to the M 7south of Portlaoise. The section from Kilbeggan to Tullamore needs urgent improvement to allow the development of Durrow Abbey site. If the road improvement is likely to be delayed then a short term solution will be required. Temporary radar controlled traffic lights coupled with a temporary speed limit and traffic calming would allow the development of access to the Durrow site in the interim.

  • The List of Church of Ireland Parish Registers
THE LIST of CHURCH OF IRELAND PARISH REGISTERS A Colour-coded Resource Accounting For What Survives; Where It Is; & With Additional Information of Copies, Transcripts and Online Indexes SEPTEMBER 2021 The List of Parish Registers The List of Church of Ireland Parish Registers was originally compiled in-house for the Public Record Office of Ireland (PROI), now the National Archives of Ireland (NAI), by Miss Margaret Griffith (1911-2001) Deputy Keeper of the PROI during the 1950s. Griffith’s original list (which was titled the Table of Parochial Records and Copies) was based on inventories returned by the parochial officers about the year 1875/6, and thereafter corrected in the light of subsequent events - most particularly the tragic destruction of the PROI in 1922 when over 500 collections were destroyed. A table showing the position before 1922 had been published in July 1891 as an appendix to the 23rd Report of the Deputy Keeper of the Public Records Office of Ireland. In the light of the 1922 fire, the list changed dramatically – the large numbers of collections underlined indicated that they had been destroyed by fire in 1922. The List has been updated regularly since 1984, when PROI agreed that the RCB Library should be the place of deposit for Church of Ireland registers. Under the tenure of Dr Raymond Refaussé, the Church’s first professional archivist, the work of gathering in registers and other local records from local custody was carried out in earnest and today the RCB Library’s parish collections number 1,114. The Library is also responsible for the care of registers that remain in local custody, although until they are transferred it is difficult to ascertain exactly what dates are covered.
