Fred Couples, who is the sixth World Golf Hall of Fame member confirmed to tee it up in Calgary at next week’s Shaw Charity Classic, added some additional firepower on Thursday to one of the deepest fields on the PGA TOUR Champions calendar. The uniqueness of the city, the surrounding area and the connection with Calgary golf fans pulls the 2014 Shaw Charity Classic champion year-after-year to Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club. He is sure to once again thrill the more than 40,000 golf fans expected to line the fairways, August 27 – September 2. “Calgary has been a very enjoyable place for me. I look forward to getting back there.” A crowd favourite since the tournament’s inception in 2013, Couples won the 2014 event in thrilling fashion after a career-best final round 61 that included a chip-in eagle on the 54th hole. He got sized up for a white cowboy hat after winning the first playoff hole over Billy Andrade. -

Fred Couples
PRE-TOURNAMENT INTERVIEW June 23, 2021 FRED COUPLES Q. We'll just start with How does it feel to be Here this week? FRED COUPLES: It feels great. Love the course. It's probably our best event. The winner gets to play in THE PLAYERS Championship, but when you win on a course like this, you've played some pretty good golf. It's nice to be here. At home, everyone's shocked that when I tell them I'm going to Akron. They don't even realize that the Tour players don't play here anymore and that the old guys play here, so it's kind of funny. But we're lucky to be here thanks to Bridgestone and the local charities. You know, it's one of my favorite places. Q. You've really been on a roll this year. FRED COUPLES: Well, yeah, I was on a roll a couple weeks ago and bogeyed the last hole to lose to Jerry Kelly, but I played very well. And I played in Des Moines before that and way back, I don't even know when it was, in April I was in the last group in Naples and there were a couple really, really good scores the last round and I had kind of a so-so last day. But I mean, on a roll, yeah. I'd like to win, but I'm playing pretty well and this is a course that is four rounds, which I think is fun for a lot -- fun for all of us. -

BERNHARD LANGER Thursday, August 20, 2015
PRE-TOURNAMENT INTERVIEW: BERNHARD LANGER Thursday, August 20, 2015 DAVE SENKO: Well, Bernhard, thanks for joining us. You come in, you've had a little time off. You had a stretch there, a couple weeks in the U.K. and then in Minneapolis, you've been on a pretty nice little run here. Maybe just talk about that stretch starting in Boston and then playing in Europe and then coming back, where things stand right now, where your game is. BERNHARD LANGER: My game is pretty good. Had a great win there in Boston at the PLAYERS Championship, the Constellation with, what was it, a six-shot lead or four-shot lead? DAVE SENKO: Six. BERNHARD LANGER: That's a nice cruise home the last few holes, didn't have to worry about it too much. Played very well that week. Continued the good play at the Senior Open, U.S. Senior Open. I was in contention, finished third in the end. Then went over to Europe, had a couple weeks off. Spent some time in Germany. Went to Greece where I designed a golf course a couple years ago and played that course, just had a look around. That was enjoyable for the family and myself. Then played St. Andrews, made the cut there. Didn't really show up on the leaderboard but it was fun being there. After that was Sunningdale, the Senior, what do you call it, British Open, I guess. Again, I was in contention there, had the lead briefly the last day for a few holes on the back nine until Marco Dawson eagled and I made par on a par 5 and then finished one behind in the end. -
