Seinfeld Star Jerry Stiller Dies Aged 92, Jerry Stiller, who played two of American television’s most cantankerous fathers on the sitcoms “Seinfeld” and “The King of Queens,” has died aged 92, his son Ben Stiller said on Twitter on Monday. “I’m sad to say that my father, Jerry Stiller, passed away from natural causes,” wrote Ben, a Hollywood comedian who appeared with his father in “Zoolander” and other movies. “He was a great dad and grandfather, and the most dedicated husband to Anne for about 62 years. He will be greatly missed. Love you Dad,” he added. Jerry Stiller was part of a 1960s comedy team with wife Anne Meara. But he was in his mid-60s when he got what would become his signature acting role – Frank Costanza, father of ne’er-do-well George Costanza (played by Jason Alexander) on “Seinfeld,” a tense, bombastic man always on the verge of apoplexy. In 1993, Stiller had thought his entertainment career was nearing an end when he got a phone call from Larry David, co-creator of “Seinfeld,” about joining the cast led by comedian Jerry Seinfeld. The show, one of the most highly regarded in U.S. TV history, was in its fourth season at the time but Stiller said he had never watched a minute of it and had to ask, “Who’s Seinfeld?” He was performing in a play at the time and had to turn down the TV job. Stiller got another chance at the role a few months later and took it. Stiller was in only 26 of the 172 “Seinfeld” episodes but each appearance was memorable, whether he was screaming “serenity now!” in a tense situation, trying on a bra for men or explaining the odd rituals of Festivus, the Dec. -

Chapter 5 Tarnished Metal Frames The Working Class and the Working Poor Toronto, Canada: Hot, humid weather and no garbage collection for four days had the city of Toronto smelling like rotting food Thursday as [garbage] strike negotiations continued. The key issues are pay raises equal to what was given emergency workers last year, and the city’s desire to drop bankable sick days and replace them with short-term disability insurance. Meanwhile, residents sweltered in line-ups to drop off bags of garbage at collection sites where strikers limited the number of people entering, local media said.1 This [strike] is not simply about garbage pickup. Parks, community centers and even the ferry to Toronto Island has been closed. Let’s not forget ambulance workers are working at 75% capacity. This strike affects the most vulnerable people in society, children, the elderly and the poor. Without cars the poor can- not transport their garbage to the temporary dumps, they are stuck with festering garbage. With the garbage inside the city, children and the elderly are being exposed to disease.2 The framing of the above UPI article and comment on a blogger’s posting about a civil strike in Toronto, Canada, suggests that the greed of union- ized workers demanding a pay increase and maintenance of their bankable sick days stinks as much as the piled-up garbage. As in this case, the media typically highlight how the labor actions of working-class individuals in- convenience ordinary people. Strikes by sanitation workers and other public servants are framed to describe health risks and the hassles that accompany work stoppages. -

Der Leser erfährt zunächst einiges über die Grund- lagen der Sitcom, wie technische Umsetzung, Figuren, Inhalte, visuelle Gestaltung und Dramatur- gie. Diese werden an der US-amerikanischen Sitcom „King of Queens“ veranschaulicht. Danach wird am Beispiel der Sitcom „Meine wilden Töchter“ verdeutlich, wie es den Autoren ge- lang das traurige Thema Tod im Comedy-Genre Sitcom zu verarbeiten. Später werden zwei Folgen von „King of Queens“ aus verschiedenen Stadien der Produktion verglichen, um zu zeigen welche Änderungen Dramaturgie, Erscheinungsbild und Inhalte durchlaufen haben. Um in die Zukunft zu blicken, wird zunächst die aktuelle Bedeutung der Sitcom im deutschen Fernsehen untersucht. Daraus werden Strategien abgeleitet wie das Genre auch in der Zukunft den Zuschauer begeistern wird. Als Beispiele werden Serien angeführt, die momentan Erfolge feiern und somit beispielhaft für den Fortbestand des vielmals totgesagten Genres stehen. -

At Cooper'sSpence begins to assume a waitress is attracted to him and feels insecure after Danny starts showing interest in her. When Doug and Deacon return home, Doug discovers the following message on the answer machine:. It's Jessica. I can't stop thinking about last weekend. How good you smelled, how your lips tasted, about what we did on the beach. Anyway you got Trade of Queens number, give me a call. Doug is confused and deletes the message in fear that Carrie might become jealous. Later, Doug receives another call from Jessica but tells Carrie he's talking to his mom and ends up closing the call with "I love you, too" because Carrie believes him and is standing next to him. Jessica calls multiple times the following day, Doug tries to explain to Jessica that he is not the Doug she had slept with, she misunderstands and thinks he is trying to avoid her. Doug reluctantly lies and says he is him and that it was just a one-night stand as Jessica said she would leave him alone if he would admit it.
