Bike Accident https://www.sltrib.com/sports/2017/12/09/after-a-bike-accident-this-summer-olympic- speedskater-mitch-whitmore-is-charging-for-pyeongchang/ Whitmore suffered a bike accident last August in Montana during the U.S. Speedskating bike camp (speed skaters often cross-train by biking). He flipped over his front handlebars after hitting a biker in front of him. Suffered five fractures in five different places in his wrist and tailbone. When Whitmore got back on the ice after his injury, he wore shorts to purposefully keep himself from going fast on the ice and hurting himself more. 2. Kimi Goetz (girlfriend) https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/winter-olympics- 2018/2018/02/18/speedskating-couple-mitch-whitmore-kimi-goetz- olympics/349168002/ Goetz and Whitmore live together in Salt Lake City. Goetz, also a speed skater, had a good chance of making the Olympic team but she suffered a major concussion. The concussion gave her spells of throwing up, mood swings, and she also has back problems. Whitmore and Goetz dreamed of spending this Olympics and taking in the full experience together, but Goetz’s injury has kept her sidelined and cheering for Whitmore from Utah. Whitmore says although her absence in Korea will not affect his racing, he is sad that she is not here in person and will not only be racing for himself, but also for Goetz. He says that instead of Goetz’s absence causing “extra pressure,” it is actually giving him “extra incentive” because he “feel[s] like [he] is representing the ambitions of two people now.” .

Naturally, the level or degree of adaptation is dependent on the genetical endowment of an individual. However, the general trends or patterns of adaptation are identified by physiological research, and guidelines are clearly delineated of the various adaptation processes, such as adaptation to muscular endurance or maximum strength. Adolescence is a difficult period to define in terms of the time of its onset and termination. During this period, most Photo Credit: Shawn Holman bodily systems become adult both structurally and functionally.

  • Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Redemption for Bergsma and Nuis in Double Dutch Success
February 16, 2020 Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Redemption for Bergsma and Nuis in double Dutch success All was well that ended well for Kjeld Nuis (NED) on the final day of the ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships in Salt Lake City. After losing his world record en route to coming second in the 1000m on Saturday, the Olympic champion edged out his team-mate Thomas Krol to take the 1500m on Sunday. Joey Mantia (USA) surprised himself with a big personal best and a bronze on home ice. Dutch star Jorrit Bergsma made amends for a mediocre display in the 5000m and the 10000m by winning the Mass Start in style. In the Ladies’ tournament Ireen Wüst kept her cool to win the Ladies’ 1500m. The 33-year- old Dutch superstar relied on her vast experience to seize her career fifth 1500m world title and her 20th world title in total, including Allround honors. Russia's Evgenia Lalenkova and Elizaveta Kazelina took silver and bronze. Canada’s Ivanie Blondin won a career-second Mass Start world title after a chaotic final sprint, with Kim Bo-Reum (KOR) and Irene Schouten (NED) collecting silver and bronze respectively. Men’s 1500m: Everything comes good for Nuis Kjeld Nuis burst into tears after coming off the podium clutching the gold medal for his career second world title in the 1500m. "It's been such a tough run-up [to this tournament]," the Dutch skater said. The Olympic 1000m and 1500m champion missed his country’s world championships trials due to illness but was handed a wild card at the expense of Koen Verweij (NED), who subsequently went to court to fight the decision.

Jorien ter Mors (NED) put the pressure on Richardson beating her in the 1000m, and Kjeld Nuis (Ned) did the exact same thing to Kulizhnikov in the men’s tournament. Two times second equals first for Richardson Richardson-Bergsma thanked her top-rank to second places in the 500m and the 1000m on the first day. Ter Mors and Brittany Bowe (USA) are second and third in the classification. Nao Kodaira (JPN) set a strong 38.30 in the fourth last pair of the 500m. The Japanese lady held the best time when Richardson-Bergsma took the ice in the next race. The American skated 38.24 to beat her. Bowe and Ter Mors were due up in the penultimate 500m race. Bowe had been sick due to food poisoning only two days ago. “She’s good for racing and keeps focusing on the things you normally would do”, professional coach Desly Hill said. Even after Ter Mors had a false start the defending champion kept her focus.
