CV SUMMARY (max. 3500 characters, including spaces) Currently I have 5 consecutive six-years periods of research approved, the last of which was granted in 2016. I am University Full Professor since 2016. I have supervised 7 doctoral theses. I have participated in 10 competitive project grants (financed with more than 700.000,00 €), in 6 of them as principal investigator. I belong to the Editorial Panel of Sexual Development and Biomedicine Hub. I was Secretary of the Dept. of Genetics of the University of Granada for 8 years and Departament Director since 2016. I was a member of two external evaluation committees (in one of them I acted as president) that evaluated 9 master's degrees from the University of Valencia and the Polytechnic University of Valencia. I evaluated 7 research projects for the Spanish Science Agency and 8 more for foreign agencies from USA, Argentina, Georgia and France and acted as external reviewer of many manuscripts for several journals, including PLOS Genetics, Development, Scientific Reports, Biology of Reproduction and PLOS One. In the field of scientific research, during my initial stage as a cytogeneticist, I published 25 articles, some of them in such prestigious journals as J. Cell Sci., Heredity or Exp. Cell Res. (Q1). Subsequently, after detecting two cases of sexual reversal, one in the 1 CURRICULUM VITAE (maximum 4 pages) Cabrera’s vole, Microtus cabrerae (Cytogenet Cell Genet 49: 275-277, 1988) and another in the Iberian mole, Talpa occidentalis (Genet Res 52: 135-140, 1988). ), I entered the field of Developmental Genetics, focusing mainly on the study of the development of ovotestes in female moles. I have developed the necessary technology for its management and study (traps and procedures to collect embryos and infants), which allowed us to study the gonadal development in this species. Some of the articles derived from these works have had a good impact, and have been published in journals such as Development, Dev. Biol. or J. Exp. Zool. (Q1). I have also made various theoretical reviews published in journals such as Trend. Genet (D1) and Bioessays (Q1). We are the only group in the world capable of collecting mole embryos, which has attracted other researchers to request our collaboration to carry out studies that would have been impossible otherwise. Thus, we conducted a study on the development of the eye with Dr. John M. Collinson (Aberdeen) (publications in BMC Biol. and Proc. Roy. Soc (Q1). We are studying the development of the front legs with Drs Mike Richardson (Leiden), resulting in several publications, including one in EvoDevo (Q1) and Stefan Mundlos (Berlin), with which we have sequenced the complete genome of the Iberian mole. We have studied the development of the placenta with Dr. Uklrich Zeller (Berlin). We have addressed the study of the role of microRNAs during sexual determination, demonstrating that miR-124 is sufficient to inhibit the expression of Sox9 during ovarian development (Biol Reprod; Q1). Our paper on the role of Sox9 and Sox8 in male sex maintenance was published in eLife (D1). We have also developed a line of research on the genetic control of seasonal reproduction of mammalian species, which has allowed us to publish several articles in J. Exp. Zool, and Biol.
