BMW Corporate Communications Media Information DTM 17th June 2017 Two podiums for BMW: Glock and Spengler finish second and third in Hungary thanks to a daring strategy. • Early pit stops bring Glock and Spengler podiums at the Hungaroring. • Spengler celebrates his first podium since Moscow 2016. • Wittmann also finished in the points in ninth place. Hungaroring. Timo Glock (GER) and Bruno Spengler (CAN) finished second and third in Saturday’s turbulent race at the Hungaroring (HUN) after a strong catch-up race, which saw them claim the third and fourth podiums of the season for BMW Motorsport. Both drivers benefitted from a daring strategy with early pit stops, which paid off after a safety car phase. Marco Wittmann (GER) in ninth also finished in the points. A collision forced Maxime Martin (BEL) and Tom Blomqvist (GBR) to retire. Augusto Farfus (BRA) was in fifth place when he was hit by a rival and the resulting spin saw him drop right down the field. Qualifying: Augusto Farfus in the Shell BMW M4 DTM achieved his best qualifying result of the season and started the race as the best-placed BMW driver in sixth on the grid. His personal fastest lap time was 1:32.275 minutes. Tom Blomqvist in the BMW Driving Experience M4 DTM in tenth place also made it into the top ten. Maxime Martin (SAMSUNG BMW M4 DTM), Timo Glock (DEUTSCHE POST BMW M4 DTM), Marco Wittmann (Red Bull BMW M4 DTM) and Bruno Spengler (BMW Bank M4 DTM) followed in positions 12, 14, 15 and 17. For those in the southern hemi- sphere we leave behind the heat of summer, and the festive season is a dis- tant memory. Above the equator, memories of cold, wet days may still linger but there is the promise of increased sunshine as days grow longer, and this all means more time to spend riding or driving. Perhaps it is also time to ponder why you are a member of a BMW Club – for two wheels or four, or maybe you are fortunate enough to be able to enjoy both types of vehicle. Nevertheless, when was the last time you sat back and asked yourself why you are a member of a club? Every now and then I like to get back to the funda- mentals. In relation to club membership, the reason for being a member has probably not changed from the basic reasons why clubs were founded in the first place. This might be to enjoy the BMW experience with fellow owners, to share the road or the track, or just share the knowledge that comes from being a BMW owner. And in its simplest form, these are arguably the fundamentals we need to re-focus on from time to time.
