Point of View Practice Highlight or circle all of the pronouns and then identify what type of point of view each paragraph is.

1. Hansel walked ahead of Gretel; after all, he knew he belonged in the front because Gretel was just a girl. Gretel dropped breadcrumbs behind her as she went, knowing that her bumbling brother couldn’t be counted on to find his way home from the outhouse, let alone from the middle of the woods. Ahead of them, an old witch waited, her stomach rumbling at the thought of what a delicious dinner the two plump children would make.

2. The banging on my door reverberated within my skull like a giant church bell in an empty hall. I groaned and rolled onto my stomach, pulling the pillow over my head.

3. Jill was scared to admit she liked Jack, and feared his reaction more than anything. She spent her days avoiding him, too embarrassed to even speak with him. What if he hated her?

4. Several people have made a lasting impression on me. I remember one person in particular who was significant to me. Mr. Smith, my high school English teacher, helped my family and me through a difficult time during my junior year. We appreciated his care, kindness, and financial help after the loss of our home in a devastating fire.

5. The bosses at the factory have decided that employees need a day of in-house training. They have scheduled times for everyone, no matter what department he’s in. Several senior employees will be required to make five-minute presentations. One is not eager to speak in front of others since she’s very shy. Another one, however, is anxious to relate her expertise. The variation in routine should provide an interesting day for all people concerned.

6. Harry had taken up his place at wizard school, where he and his scar were famous ...but now the school year was over, and he was back with the Dursleys for the summer, back to being treated like a dog that had rolled in something smelly. The Dursleys hadn't even remembered that today happened to be Harry's twelfth birthday. Of course, his hopes hadn't been high…
