Applying for the EVGP Certificate A step-by-step guide for practitioners
There are two primary ways to apply for the EVGP. Option 1 involves taking IAEVG endorsed training that is geared specifically to the core competencies or one of the areas of specialization in the IAEVG Competency Framework. The Administrator of the approved training program will have explicit details on which competencies are covered in each course and a list of approved courses is appended to this document. (See Attachment A.) Option 2 involves documenting training that has been completed in each of the areas named in the IAEVG Competency Framework. Most applicants who have participated in IAEVG endorsed training will likely end up using a combination of both options, providing evidence of having completed the training program(s) plus evidence of training that has taken place outside of the current IAEVG endorsed training program. The step-by-step guide below is intended to make the application process straight forward and easy.
1. The process begins by downloading the application package, available from any one of the following websites: http://www.iaevg.org >> About IAEVG >> Credential http://www.aiosp.org >> L’AIOSP >> Certification http://cce-global.org/EVGP
The application package is available in the four official languages of IAEVG, namely French, English, German, and Spanish. The application process is managed by the Center for Credentialing in Education (CCE). The cost for application review is $90.00 (USD), payable by credit card, cashier’s cheque, certified cheque, money order, or bank draft drawn on a U.S. bank. Normally, applicants will receive a response from the CCE 6-8 weeks from the date the application was received. Staff at the CCE can process applications in the four official languages of IAEVG. All application materials must be in one of the four official languages of IAEVG.
The application process cannot be completed on-line. The application form must be completed on paper and sent via post along with supporting documentation. Although this might seem rather strange in current times, internet access and access to electronic forms of official documents is still sporadic in many countries, therefore a paper and post process is currently being used.
The application package contains: background information on the EVGP, a description of the IAEVG Competency Framework, and an explanation of the application process. In order to obtain the EVGP Certificate, applicants must demonstrate mastery of all of the Core Competencies and one or more sets of Specialized Competencies.
2. Applicants complete the application form and are required to sign a statement indicating that they have read and agree to abide by the Educational and Vocational Guidance Practitioner (EVGP) Ethical Standards. The EVGP Ethical standards are available from the home page of the EVGP http://cce-global.org/EVGP
3. Applicants then complete a personal reflective statement outlining their theoretical orientation, professional goals, and professional development plans. A two-page form for this is included in the application package.
4. Acknowledging that people can acquire competence through formal education and training, but also through other means (e.g., on the job training, mentoring, self- managed learning, etc.), in cases where no documentation of formal training exists, a competency review completed by two qualified people may be submitted as evidence that an acceptable level of competence has been achieved. The process for the competency review, and the relevant forms, are included in the application package.
5. Applicants then complete a self-assessment of competencies, indexed to the documentation that they provide to confirm their competence in the areas specified in the IAEVG Competency Framework. For people who have completed IAEVG endorsed training this task is quite easy because the courses will have been reviewed already and the competencies covered in each course have been endorsed. The body in charge of record keeping for the training you have taken (in most cases this will be the registrar or someone functioning as a registrar) will be able to provide you with a statement of the courses you have taken (transcript) and the competencies that have been approved as being covered in sufficient depth to be acceptable in each course you completed.
6. Applicants then prepare their application package, including all of the above information, the confirmation from the training registrar that they have completed the training courses in question, a copy of the diploma, degree, or transcript for the highest educational level completed, and competency review forms where appropriate, and submit the package to the Centre for credentialing in Education, according to the instructions provided on the web sites listed in point #1. The cost for application review is $90.00 (USD), payable by credit card, cashier’s cheque, certified cheque, money order, or bank draft drawn on a U.S. bank.
7. In cases where the application to the CCE is straight forward (e.g., the documentation provided by the applicant is in the form of higher education transcripts, or completion of pre-approved training experiences) CCE staff will complete the review process. In cases where a second opinion is required, the application will be forwarded to the chair of the review panel for review, in consultation with other members of the review panel as required. Normally, applicants will receive a response from the CCE 6-8 weeks from the date the application was received. Approved Courses and Training Programs for EVGP Credential (2010-07-10)
