Only one Sophomore will be selected to attend the very prestigious HOBY Leadership Seminar at no-cost as a guest of the Brooke County Rotary. However, if students who are selected in 2nd, 3rd and 4th place to attend are willing to pay the registration cost themselves or have a sponsor who is willing to pay the $350 registration fee, we may send up to 4 representatives. So, when you apply, please plan ahead and know if you would be willing to cover the cost of the seminar either yourself or through a sponsor should you be selected in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th position to attend. I will need to ask you that and you must have an answer once the recipient is selected. Some possible sponsors might include your church, a civic club or organization, fire department, chamber of commerce, parent’s employer, your own savings, or even Grandma. You will need to secure a sponsor that will help you with the finances to attend if you are selected in position 2 – 4.

The student selected to be the HOBY recipient will attend a 3 day leadership seminar at the University of Charleston in Charleston, WV June 8 – 11, 2017. Absence will be school approved if we happen to still be in session at that time.

Emily Donley was selected as our HOBY representative last year and Ashley Eby was the 2016 HOBY. Maria Lombardi and Mackenzie Stone were our HOBY representatives in 2015. Drew Garrett, Dalton Minger and Ashley VanCamp attended HOBY in 2014. Paraag Gupta attended in 2013. Kylie Greathouse was the 2011-2012 recipient. Ryan Mezan and Shelby Wade attended in 2010-1011.
