Tues, 24 Oct 17: 9-10 h Topic: C82CHIP – Empiricism vs. Rationalism Brief presentation by: Rosa To prepare: Everybody to read article about Empiricism and Rationalism in Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosopy (http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/rationalism- empiricism/). Everybody to think about some psychological research that supports one of the two viewpoints (everybody to find at least one example).

3. Mon, 20 Nov 17: 15-16h Topic: C82PIN – Personality theories Brief presentation by: Lucy & Megan To prepare: Everybody revises relevant lecture notes and relevant text book chapters, as appropriate.

4. Mon, 27 Nov 17: 16-17h Topic: C82COG, Reasoning about probabilities – Bayes’ theorem Brief presentation by: Aimee To prepare: 1. Revise Richard Tunney’s lecture on “Reasoning about probabilities”, supplemented by reading of relevant text book chapter and, if appropriate, additional selected papers (Richard Tunney suggested: Sedlmeier & Gigerenzer (2001). Teaching Bayesian reasoning in less than two hours. JEP:G, 130, 380- 400). 2. Try to understand Bayes’ theorem. 3. Consider the following questions: Is people’s reasoning about probabilities consistent with Bayes’ Theorem (consider examples)? Why not (what explanations have been proposed)? 5. Mon, 5 Feb 2018, 13-14h C82NAB – Key principles of neurotransmission Brief presentation by: Natalia To prepare: Please read up on transmission within a neuron (action potential generation) and between neurons (synaptic transmission). Have a look at the relevant C81BIO lectures and relevant text book chapters (e.g., in Carlsson, the relevant subsections of chapter 2, p. 41ff and p. 51ff).
