Erin Hunt Named Girls’ Hockey Head Coach

SHAKOPEE, Minn. (July 14, 2015) – Erin Hunt has been named the new head coach of the Shakopee High School girls’ hockey team. Hunt will also serve as a social studies teacher at the high school.

Hunt has spent the past six years coaching at Falmouth High School in Massachusetts including two years as a volunteer assistant and the last four years as the team’s head coach. During her four years as head coach, Hunt led Falmouth to four state tournament appearances and a state championship in 2015. She compiled an overall record of 68-15-9 and was named Boston Globe Coach of the Year twice, in 2013 and again in 2015.

“We are excited to welcome Erin to Shakopee Schools and the girls’ hockey program,” Activities Director John Janke said. “Erin’s resume speaks for itself and she brings a level of excellence not only from her playing days but also from her past coaching experience. I’m excited to watch her move our program forward.”

A native of Plymouth, Minnesota, Hunt played three years of varsity hockey at Wayzata High School before forgoing her final two years of high school eligibility to play for the Minnesota Thoroughbreds—an elite-level program for girls 19 and under. Hunt went on to play four years of college hockey at Boston College as a defenseman. As a Golden Eagle, Hunt played in 134 career games, recorded six goals and 28 assists, and played in the 2007 Frozen Four. She received the Boston College Leadership Award and the ACC Community Service Award in 2007. She was also a two-time recipient of the Boston College Athletic Director’s Award for Academic Achievement.

“I am excited for the opportunity to return to Minnesota to work as an educator and coach in the Shakopee Public School system,” Hunt said. “I look forward to meeting the students at Shakopee High School and coaching the student-athletes of the Shakopee girls’ hockey program!”

Erin and her husband Dave have two dogs and are currently looking for housing in the area.
