Here S Something That I Found Really Interesting. If You Broke Down the Human Body Into

Self Esteem

Here’s something that I found really interesting. If you broke down the human body into all it’s individual components, like; Oxygen, Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Calcium, Phosphorous, Potassium, Sulphur, Sodium, Chlorine, Magnesium, Iron & Iodine. The human body is worth about $4.50, and actually skin (which could be made into leather accounts for $3.50 of that! But if you sold each individual body part from a living body to be transplanted, then your total net worth jumps to a massive $45 million! That’s amazing right? Who would have thought that the human body was so valuable. Only problem is that we need pretty much all the valuable stuff within us, surviving, for us to live, so don’t get any quick rich ideas yet!

But even though you might be worth a whole heap of money, many of us go through times where we feel low and don’t actually feel as though we have a whole lot of value. Self esteem is really a massive thing, it can totally destroy your life if you have a low one and can be your life if you have a good one. Being healthy in this area of self esteem, means that in some ways, you love yourself just a little bit. Not in some way where you’re thinking that you’re awesome and no one is better, but in a way that makes you feel confident in the things that your doing and you know that you are a valuable person.

I think this issue of self esteem comes down to three different things for teenagers. The first is self image, which is how I look and if that is acceptable to others. The second is how our families and friends accept and love us. This is massive, especially in families that have divorced or where things are strained at home and there are lots of arguments. The third area where we draw a massive amount of self esteem from, is in the understanding about God. You see, when we live in a world where everyone is telling us that we are really nothing more than a fluke, a chance occurrence, a part of an evolutionary ladder that leaves us nothing more than just an animal. Then that doesn’t leave us feeling like we’re anything special. But when we come to realise that in fact, God says that he knows us so well, that he can tell you at any time how many hairs are on your head! (Luke 26:7) That’s pretty amazing and shows us that God in fact does care for us a lot. He says time and time again in the bible that he hears our prayers and the cries of our hearts. Or in other words, every time we’re sad or in need, God knows it and wants to comfort us through our sadness. This stuff shows us that God loves us and when we know that he cares for us, then that does heaps for our self esteem. How cool is it to think that the God of the universe cares for each of us as individuals, that’s pretty amazing I think.

So the big idea about our studies tonight is to get us to think through our own self esteem and how we can also help others with theirs. I would love to see each of us being really healthy in the way they looked at themselves and also that we might be the kind of people who would care for our mates here at YouthQuake in the way that they might feel more confident about who they are too.

Small groups. Self Esteem

If your house was burning down in the middle of the night and you only had enough time to pick up one thing, what would it be?

Does something of great value have to be worth a lot of money?

What if it was your parents who were leaving a burning house, what do you think they would make sure they had with them on the way out? Hopefully they would say them, their kids, but if they’re not thinking like this, try to encourage them to think what could be most valuable to their parents. This could open up to other questions about parent issues, so be careful!

Are you 100% happy with the way you look? If you could change one thing about your physical appearance, what would it be?

Mandy is in a good group of friends at school and they share a lot together, but recently she has noticed that whenever she has something to say on an issue, her opinion is being ignored. It all really came to a head when they were talking about a new movie that was out, Transformers. Most of the girls thought that there was no way life in the future would include talking transforming robots, but Mandy, who had watching Beyond Tomorrow and studied the development of robotics and artificial intelligence, knew different. When Mandy started sharing some of this with her friends, they just ignored her and told her that she was a total weirdo for even knowing about this kind of stuff.

How would it make you feel if your voice wasn’t being heard when you had an opinion about something with your group of friends?

If this kept going on for a while, what are some of the things that Mandy could do?

How important do you think it is that our friends value what we say or who we are?

There was this guy called David, and he wrote stacks of stuff in the bible. One of his poem’s that he wrote to God says this; (Psalms 8:3) I look at your heavens, which you made with your fingers. I see the moon and stars, which you created. 4But why are people important to you? Why do you take care of human beings?

So why do you think God would care for humans?

Do you think he cares for us any differently than he would an animal?

Jesus said this when he was speaking to a group of people (Luke 12:6) “Five sparrows are sold for only two pennies, and God does not forget any of them. 7But God even knows how many hairs you have on your head. Don’t be afraid. You are worth much more than many sparrows. 8“I tell you, all those who stand before others and say they believe in me, I, the Son of Man, will say before the angels of God that they belong to me. 9But all who stand before others and say they do not believe in me, I will say before the angels of God that they do not belong to me.

How does it make you feel to know that the God of everything cares for you and even knows amazing stuff like how many hairs you have on your head?

Evaluating yourself by the worldly But this verse kind of says that with God it is a two way street, standards of success and so I guess we need to ask whether you are one of the people achievement can cause you to think who would say in front of others that you believe in God? too much about your worth in the eyes of others and therefore miss Pray to finish for the needs of the group. your true value in God’s eyes.
