Advanced students will work in a production group to create a small-animated movie. This course meets PUSD Fine Art credit, and UC/CSU ‘f’ Elective Credit (Students must complete 1 and 2 to receive UC/CSU ‘f’ credit). 3D Computer Animation 3-4 and 5-6 meets PUSD Fine Art credit.
Objectives: All students will be able to:
Sketch by hand Create pictorial drawings and 3D models or prototypes Demonstrate knowledge of CAD or 3Ds Max and be able to choose the appropriate tools to save production time and meet timelines. Work as a team
Supplies: Supplies and textbooks are guaranteed for each student; students willing to obtain their own supplies will help sustain the high quality, award winning programs that are offered. If your family has the means to contribute more, we would be grateful and appreciate every individual that is willing to provide their own supplies or can provide a minimum $30 voluntary contribution to the program; but of course are not obligated to do so or are required since public education is free to all students.
The following items are recommended for this course Computer Animation 1-6:
Industrial Design Clay (Chavant) Portfolio 8.5’x11’ Itoya brand (pictorial) 8½”x11 regular or color laser paper for portfolio Drawing paper (8 ½ x 11) or sketchbook 2GB Thumb drive or higher for backing up files
Assignments: A few student assignments and syllabi are on line at http://www.powayusd.com/teachers/rdohm . Stu- dents are required to take Cornell notes during software demonstrations and will be graded on the notes. Students are re- sponsible for their own learning and will receive a grade on the quality of their work. Self-discipline in turning in assign- ments is critical to having a passing and high grade. Most assignments are projects. Students will also be expected to give a presentation in class.
Turning in work: It is required that every student in the class completes every assignment to avoid an incomplete in the course indicated on their report card. Students that earn an incomplete will have 5 weeks to complete the work after the incomplete is received according to PUSD Board Policy. Statistically, only 50% of students that earn an incomplete finish the work; so be proactive, don’t get behind, and turn all your work in on time.
Grading: Student daily assignments are graded out of a 100% point scale. The final is worth approximately 20% of your grade. The student overall grade is based upon their cumulative points during the semester divided by the possible points. Each student has the possibility of receiving an “A” in the class because there is no curve, just points. Students not meet- ing due dates will still need to complete missing assignments and will earn a ‘T’ on their work which has a zero value but indicating it has been turned in.
Competitions and Awards: Students will be strongly encouraged to enter local, state, and national competitions; such as, Del Mar Fair, VICA, VEX, IVIE and FIRST ROBOTICS. Goal setting and time management is vital to competing. Make-up work: Students are responsible to have all missed work made up by the end of each grading period. Students can redo all assignments turned in on time receiving 100% credit. If assignments are turned in late they can only receive up to 50% credit unless stated otherwise.
Attendance: Students arriving after the tardy bell will be late and marked TARDY. After 6 accumulated tardy a referral will go to the office. After 3 truancies, a referral will go to the office as well.
Classroom Policies:
