Course Description: The Skill Sets in this course will introduce students to the skills, technology, and service of electrical/electronic systems of the automobile. Areas of studies include; general electrical diagnosis, battery diagnosis and service, starting system diagnosis and repair, charging system diagnosis and repair, lighting system diagnosis and repair, information system diagnosis and repair, horn and wiper/washer diagnosis and repair, and accessories diagnosis and repair. Students will comply with personal and environmental safety practices associated with proper ventilation, handling, storage, and disposal of brake components.This course is recommended as an Elective in Automotive Technology.

1627.2  interpret wiring diagrams during diagnosis of electrical circuit problems.. 1627.3  test voltage, current, and voltage drop in electrical/electronic circuits using a DVOM. 1627.4  describe and discuss electrical safety precautions when using arc welding equipment. 1627.5  inspect electrical connections, wiring relays, to find shorts, grounds, opens and resistance problems. 1627.6  read service guides to find information needed to perform repairs. 1627.7  diagnose the causes of abnormal key-off battery drain and repair as needed . 1627.8  inspect and test fusible links, circuit breakers, fuses and repair as needed. 1627.9  inspect and test switches, connectors, relays, and wires of electrical/electronic circuits and perform repairs or replace as needed. 1627.10  diagnose problems associated with gauge readings, readings on electronic instrument clusters, test sensors and sending units. 1627.11  diagnose incorrect operation of warning devices and other DIS problems. 1627.12  diagnose incorrect operation of motor-driven accessory circuits, heated glass, electric door and hatch/trunk lock operation and cruise control. 1627.13  diagnose supplemental restraint system problems. 1627.14  explain and repair radio problems. 1627.15  diagnose and repair incorrect wiper operation problems. 1627.16  diagnose and repair incorrect windshield washer operation problems.
