Several highways would be ready in 6 months

Anil K Ankur Lucknow: Next six months would see completion of several national highways in the state and Detailed Project Report (DPR) would be ready for conversion of several roads into two-lane roads. There would be enough scope and provision to transform the two- lane roads into four-lane in future. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has come up with a fresh calendar for this.

NHAI fresh schedule has timelines—between four months to four years--for various projects in the state. But it has said that it cannot stick to the schedule without the cooperation of the state government.

As of now the NHAI plans to complete DPRs for two-lane roads for Allahabad and Varanasi in next six months. It targets to begin work on these projects within nine months from now.

These two-lane roads would be seven meters. It would also have two-meter width of pave shoulders. These shoulders could be brought to the level of the main road and merged in it to covert the road into four-lane as and when need arises in the future. Once the work beings, NHAI would complete them within three years.

NHAI sources says that Sultanpur road has over a dozen railway crossing while Allahabad road has half a dozen. It expects to get ‘no objection’ from the Railways soon for building ROBs (Railway Over Bridges) on the roads to make traffic flow faster on them.

Sources also say that work on Lucknow-Faizabad road is nearing completion. From October onwards vehicles would run fast on it.

Sixty per cent of work would be accomplished on the 75 kilometer long Lucknow-Sitapur road by July. The issues related to encroachment of the road has been sorted out for Sindhauli, Kamlapur and Etaunja segments of the road. Entire road would be ready by December. By November work on the railway over bridge in Unnao (on Lucknow- Kanpur) road would finish.
