Exempt JOB TITLE: RESPONSE TO INTERVENTION (RTI)/504 SPECIALIST
QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree, five years professional experience
REPORTS TO: Director of Academics
SUPERVISES: Clerical Staff
JOB GOAL: To assure compliance of school system with federal, state and local regulations involving children with disabilities in regular education. ______MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops, implements, and coordinates functions with regular school programs and activities; assesses needs; compiles and develops data, information, and listings; assists in program planning; may advise professional or clerical staff; completes records and activity reports. Evaluates students; may sit in on disciplinary hearings; consults with school administrators, staff, teachers, and parents to define problems; analyzes data and information to determine appropriate action to best serve students and remedy problems. Conducts workshops and discussion groups; consults with teachers, community groups, and government officials; Serves as multi-sensory specialist, liaison, or intermediary; Develops awareness and acceptance of program; Provides information and training on nature and purpose of program. Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS OF WORK Master’s degree in education. Five years of professional teaching, or any equivalent combination of acceptable experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills: Considerable knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and subsequent amendments, Dyslexia and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) characteristics, and appropriate modifications for various disabilities. Considerable knowledge of school board and state policies, goals, and objectives regarding the program. Ability to establish effective working relationships with students, teachers, principals, community groups, and state and parish agencies. Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and direct the work of subordinate staff or volunteers. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
