How it works: The students at the regional meeting are divided into units of around ten students who are all in the same area of scientific research, such as chemistry. A panel of two or more judges then evaluates the student's project presentation against set criteria. The students can receive a first, second or third award on their project. Each unit can have more than one first award. Students who receive a first award are then eligible to go to the State Meeting at Penn State University the third weekend in May.

The cost of student registration is $20.00 Have checks made out to WSD & write “PJAS” & “Pietrangelo” in Memo section. Checks must be submitted to Mrs. Pietrangelo with completed forms NO LATER than Monday, January 3, 2011.

You will need to register online at http://www.pjas.net/. The deadline will be January 7th, 2011.

What you need at the competition: You need to have your presentation on transparencies. Please do this sooner than later. Transparencies can be made at Kinko’s, Staples, etc. or they can be purchased at any office supply store and made at home (PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE BUYING THE RIGHT KIND – SOME CAN MELT AND RUIN YOUR PRINTER).

If you need help: Set up a time to meet with Mrs. P in the weeks before the competition, either before school any day, or on Tuesday or Thursday after school. This way I can sit down with you and discuss any improvements etc.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Good Luck,

Mrs. Pietrangelo.
