Mtbr-Ons Annual Elections

MICHIGAN TRAVERSE BAY REGION ONCOLOGY NURSING SOCIETY CHAPTER NEWSLETTER 9/15/08

Here is a note from Renae Vaughn. She has moved to South Carolina to explore a new path in her career.

I started my new job today. I'm working for Coastal Cancer Center in Myrtle Beach, SC. They have a good web site at : coastalcancercenter.com. They have 5 offices within 45 miles of Myrtle beach. I will be primarily at the Conway office. The practice is very progressive. There 100 employees and it is a private company with 5 physicians, I make the 3rd NP. All of the NP's have been hired within the last 2 months. One is a FNP, no oncology experience, one has worked for CCC for 8 years and went back to school and graduated from Duke with an Oncology NP master degree and now me. I have been looking at the job for almost a year. It was a very difficult decision to leave Cheboygan, but I really needed more stimulation and challenges. CCC has a partnership with Duke for research, and that is something that I really want to work with. Research has always been one of my passions and I'm hoping to be able to work closely with patients on clinical trials. They have EMR, a CT machine at 2 sites, and in March they put in a dedicated CT/PET. They have the only fixed unit in the county. The have bone density, plain Xray at 3 sites. They have a very active ONS chapter and I'm looking forward to getting more involved locally. I'm hoping to be able to gain more experience with genetics and hopefully be able to start a genetic counseling program in the practice (like Christa does at MMC). Anyway, big change. My email is the same. My address is 543 Belton Drive, Conway, SC 29526. Phone 843-347-4256. Please share it with anybody that wants it and I would be happy to share information at any time. If anybody comes to MB, please let them know to look me up, I would be happy to have guest and would be willing to take them to the facility for a tour. It really is top notch. I'm looking forward to getting into practice and establishing myself here, but it will take some time. Thanks for the email. Tell all hi.
