Area of Consumer Decision Making concentration Lesson Title Lesson 1- Study Time!!!4-H FCS Project Lesson Plans Overview The 4-H members will go through each class in the State Study Guide and come up with a 1-2 page study sheet to use when studying consumer. Learner  Highlight essential items in State Study Guide to learn and use when studying consumer. Objectives:  Develop a 1-2 page study sheet to study in consumer instead of studying a book.  Study and utilize study sheet for other lessons. 4-H members will be able to: Materials  State Consumer Study Guide (all 6 classes) Needed  Highlighter  Pencil  Blank Paper-1-3 pages of paper (to make study sheet) Activity Go through each class (make take a few meetings to do) and come up with main points or items for each class that will help the students study. Highlighting the points in each study guide will help. Do not give them the main points but have them tell you the main items. Here is a reference for the 2010-2011 Consumer Project Year: Sunscreen:  SPF 30 is good and more than that is not really important  SPF 15 minimum  UVA/UVB  Figure $ divided by oz. to find price per oz.  Lotions are better for babies than spray  Sweatproof and waterproof are important if they are swimming or playing outside. Credit Cards:  Lowest APR  Is it variable or fixed APR  Fixed is better  Some are fixed for so many years or months  Watch for fees especially annual fees  Watch for Charge cards- make you pay in full each month and usually do not have an APR. Laundry Detergent:  $ divided by load to find price per load  Watch for loads not size (some concentrated liquids are in little containers)  Hypo allergenic/free and clear for sensitive skin  Watch scenario to see if it says they have a High Efficient (HE) washing machine  Regular detergent does not work in an HE machine.  HE Detergent works in a regular machine and HE machine  Watch for Bleach allergies in scenario Digital Photo Frames:  Internal memory is important  1GB is always bigger than MB (they will never put enough MB to equal a GB)  Ways to put pictures on frame 4-H FCS Project Lesson Plans

It also provides a general overview of the lesson in terms of topic , focus, activities, and purpose. Learner Objectives = This section focuses on what the 4-H members will do to learn knowledge and skills. The learner objectives can be found on the draft outline document. Additional learner objectives can be added. Activity = Include all of the activities that you feel complete the lesson. Reflection = Help youth reflect on what they have learned from this lesson. Application = Identify ways that the 4-H member can use the skills learned on their own. Resources = Materials that will be helpful to the leader or 4-H member.
