At the age of 18, Tara Howard was a beautiful and bright college freshman. Her passions were her art and social justice. Tara believed that every person was family or friend. She gave her beautiful smile freely to everyone, and she loved spending time with and helping those who did not appear to be loved by others. Tara’s passion for social justice led her to become active in many service projects, including feeding the homeless in Baltimore City, convincing her friends to work with her for Habitat for Humanity, and founding a Social Justice Club at her high school. She strongly believed not only in helping and serving others, but in encouraging and providing opportunities for her family, friends, and others to become involved in service as well. Tara Howard tragically lost her life January 6, 2006 in a car accident, due to a malfunctioning traffic light. Tara's enthusiasm for life, her talents, and her unending capacity to love and to give to others in her short life were truly remarkable, unique, and inspirational. By providing funds for their service projects, Tara’s Foundation hopes to inspire other young people to volunteer and to become active in their communities, exemplifying Tara's caring, energy, and spirit.

Apply

We are delighted that you are applying for a grant from Tara’s Foundation. Tara Howard was a beautiful and bright Dean’s List college freshman, majoring in Graphic Design. Tara's most significant gift, however, was the size of her heart and the enthusiasm with which she delivered and shared her gifts with others. Tara had a passion for social justice. Her love shone brightly in her interactions with other people. Tara believed that everyone was family or friend. She especially loved spending time with, and helping, those who did not appear to be loved by others. Tara made everyone feel special. She helped the homeless, the elderly, and children. Tara’s passion for social justice led her to start a Social Justice Club at her high school, because she strongly believed not only in helping and serving others, but in encouraging and providing opportunities for her family, friends, and others to become involved in service as well. On January 6, 2006, Tara Howard tragically lost her life in a car accident, due to a malfunctioning traffic light. To celebrate Tara’s life, we have organized a Foundation in her name. The purpose of this Foundation is to promote the community service projects of youth and young adults in the Baltimore / Washington area. These projects must be initiated by young people who enlist the help of other young people to achieve the goals of the project. Thank you in advance for applying for this grant. We will evaluate your request, and get back to you as soon as possible. We know you are anxious to get started!

Sincerely,

Linda P. Howard, President (410) 461-5580
