David Johnson is the President and Chief Executive Officer of BioCrossroads, a market-driven collaboration of Indiana's corporate, university, government and entrepreneurial leaders in the life sciences industry. BioCrossroads supports life sciences business development activities by raising investment funds and investing and launching new life sciences businesses. The organization provides additional support to the state's existing life sciences industry by expanding science education opportunities, expanding university technology transfer capabilities and building strategic university/industry partnerships.

A longtime business leader and lawyer, Johnson initially served as volunteer chair of BioCrossroads' capital formation task force, which ultimately formed the Indiana Future Fund I, LLC. The IFF is a $73 million venture capital pool drawn from Indiana's leading corporate, university and public pension fund institutions. Managed by Credit Suisse, the IFF is providing early-stage venture capital to emerging Indiana life sciences companies. Johnson also serves as President of a BioCrossroads-affiliated entity that manages the $6 million Indiana Seed Fund I, designed to invest in Indiana life sciences businesses in the earliest stages of growth.

Under Johnson's leadership, BioCrossroads continues to make significant progress to expand and promote Indiana's life sciences industry through its biopharmaceutical manufacturing initiative, continued growth of its start-up businesses (such as the Fairbanks Institute, INCAPS and the Indiana Health Information Exchange), launch of a new statewide K-12 science education resource center, and championing and branding of Indiana's life sciences cluster, among many other activities.

An honors graduate of Harvard University, Harvard Law School and Oxford University, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar, Johnson was a partner in the law firm of Baker & Daniels from 1986 through 2004, and remains "of counsel" with the firm.

Johnson's active community participation includes serving as co-chair for the Regional Center 2020 Plan Commission for the City of Indianapolis; as Chairman of the Board of Managers, Indiana Center for Applied Protein Sciences, LLC; as Secretary-Treasurer and Member, Board of Directors, of the Indiana Health Information Exchange, Inc.; as a member of the Indiana University Research and Technology Corporation Board of Directors, the Indiana University- Purdue University Indianapolis Board of Advisors, the Indiana Future Fund Advisory Committee, the Fairbanks Institute Board of Directors, CS-Keys, Inc.
