1. Welcome and Introductions Fabrizio introduced himself as chair of the TC and the other officers: Harry Skianis (Vice-Chair) and Stefano Giordano (Secretary). All the participants then presented themselves. The agenda is presented to the attendees.

2. Minutes of Globecom'09 meeting The committee unanimously approves the minutes of the last CSIM TC meeting at Globecom’09 in Honolulu Hawaii.

3. TAC Report Fabrizio Granelli provides a summary of the main functions performed by TAC (Technical Activities Council). As chair he presents a report about main issues discussed during the TAC meeting @ ICC 2010: • New VP-Technical Activities: Mark Karol • New TAC Vice-Chair/Secretary: Mehmet Ulema • Presentation about TAC structure: awards (director V. Poor), fellows (director R. Hsing), communications history (director M. Schwartz), education board (director S. Bregni), recertification, emerging technologies (director N. Ohta), distinguished lecturers selection (director M. Ulema), standards board (director C. Siller) • Recertification: a motion will be proposed to BoG to recertify 17 (CSIM included) over 18 TCs • Ad-hoc committee on Smart Grid Communications (one representative for each TC) • Suggestions for TCs: – TCs should involve young members and industrial participants – More involvement is required on ComSoc Community Groups – Initiative on “Best Readings on PLC” (S. Galli, S. Benedetto, L. Cimini). Maybe it is possible to have “Best Readings” on other topics

4. GITC Report Nelson Fonseca summarized the main issues discussed on the Globecom/ICC Technical Council. The new “no-show” policies of IEEE Comsoc which required to compile the forms for each sessions (presence of authors, no-show, ecc). A new policy on the full/limited registration per paper was also discussed (in the future every paper will require at least one full/limited registration and not only one registration for three papers). Starting from the Globecom in Miami the tutorials will be free of charge.

5. CSIM Status and Activities Fabrizio Granelli describes the scope of the committee and introduces the officers (Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary) of the TC that following P&Ps remain in charge for 2 years. The current number of members of the CSIM TC is 174 members (May 21st, 2010). The website is http://www.comsoc.org/~csim ; the mailing list is [email protected] The chair discussed the results obtained by the use of Web 2.0 open tools (such as twitter, linkedin, google calendar) to stimulate the interaction among the CSIM members worldwide. (63 members on LinkedIn, 16 on Twitter, 18 on Facebook, 43 on CSIM-TC group on the ComSoc Community site – first TC to open a Community page). He also described to the participants the use of the Elluminate tool used during the meeting to facilitate the remote participation of members.

The chair presented the CSIM Sub-committees: Awards (leaded by Nelson Fonseca) Standard (leaded by Fabrizio Granelli) Membership Development (leaded by J.Ben-Othman) And new volunteers for Web2.0 Management (Juliana Freitag) Smart Grid Ad-Hoc Committee (George Michailidis)

Fabrizio presented the status of the CSIM SIGs (Special Interest Groups): - Cross-Layering (proposed by F. Granelli) - Service Modeling and Simulation (proposed by M. Devetsikiotis) - Measurements (proposed by A. Pescapè) - Future Internet Testbeds (proposed by H. Skianis) - Modeling and Simulation Tools (proposed by J. Rodrigues) SIGs will report to the committee periodically; tangible results are required to maintain each SIG active. A new proposal was made during the meeting: to have SiGs present their activities at CSIM meetings, even from remote using Elluminate or other tools.

6. CSIM eNewsletter The chair described the last issue of the CSIM eNewsletter (eds. Stefano Giordano) and proposed two new editors for the future editions (Stefano Giordano and Dzmitry Kliazovich).

7. CSIM Awards The CSIM TC includes the award subcommittee chaired by Nelson Fonseca. This subcommittee is responsible for Comsoc Awards and IEEE Awards usually given for Conference Best Papers Awards, Best Paper Awards, Distinguished Service Award, Career Achievement Award. 8. Publications CSIM is available to support proposals for special issues on IEEE journals (ComMag, JSAC, etc.) and other editorial activities. There was a proposal from Antonio Pescapè (represented by Alberto Dainotti) and Stefano Giordano on a Special Issue of the ComMag on “Future Internet Metrology” or “Future Internet Monitoring”. The committee will evaluate a proper name considering also the aspects related to power management and consumption.

9. ICC 2010 ICC 2010 23 - 29 May 2010 / Cape Town (South Africa) CSIM supported the Symposium on Communications QoS, Reliability and Performance Modelling Symposium • Co-Chairs: Nelson Fonseca, Harry Skianis • Submissions: 170 submissions • Accepted papers: 33%.

10. IEEE CAMAD 2010 The chair presented the 15th edition of CAMAD, since its 14th edition now IEEE CAMAD (not only with the IEEE technical co-sponsorship) flagship conference of the CSIM committee • General Chair: C. 22. Other Business Volunteers’ participation to CSIM activities is really appreciated and necessary. The chair presented some proposal to stimulate the participation of a larger number of members.
