Burlington County Coalition for Healthy Communities Monthly Meeting Minutes Tuesday September 20, 2016

Meeting was held at The Pinelands Family Success Center in Browns Mills, NJ Meeting called to order at 2:00 PM

Guest Speaker:

Cynthia Sosnowski, MFT, EdD, Asst. Chair Psychology spoke about placement of interns for Wilmington University into Non-profit agencies in Burlington County. She also discussed Coalition sustainability, resource development and strategic planning to ensure members address the planning process with a high level of cultural awareness and sensitivity, including issues related to the youth LGBTQ community.

Drug Free Communities Report Coordinator Joe Conlin reported on the plans for Red Ribbon Week. There will be a county wide poster contest for students from 3rd to 12th grades, using the Above the Influence theme. The coalition will be partnering with the County Human Services to create and distribute a flyer. Judging of the posters will take place on Friday October 28th at the Moorestown Mall.

Joe announced that there will be a meeting on October 6th with the county Municipal Alliances to set up a Town Hall meeting on Underage Drinking for all of Burlington County.

There was a brief discussion about the PRIDE survey for 2016-17

Joe announced that the coalition will be holding a free beverage server training to be held at the Burlington County Library in November.

Regional Coalition

Marc Romano announced the addition of 2 Rx drop boxes at the Municipal Buildings in Maple Shade and Moorestown.

Marc also discuss the summer coalition project of providing addiction Hotline cards to police. The cards were created in both English and Spanish and were provided to ALL county law enforcement agencies.

Kim Burns from Tobacco Free NJ gave a report on the status of smoke free parks ordinances and showed off the new signs.

2 Partnership Grant

Marc Romano reported that Beth Mayers resigned to take a position with Blue Cross.

He said that he helped her over the summer with a project to contact county funeral home directors to discuss sharing information drop box materials and safe medication disposal with their clients. This information was also provided to retirement communities.
