Our Harvest Festival will be held in St Peter’s Church on Friday 5th October at 9:15am. This year we are supporting two charities “The Burnley Food Bank” and “Barnardo’s.” We are asking that children bring in cans of food, in date, for the food bank.
We are also supporting Barnardo’s by encouraging the children to participate in the Barnardo's Veggi-Pal Challenge. The children are sponsored to create a vegetable/fruit friend and look after it for a week! The children need to bring in their Veggi-Pals on or before Friday so that they can be placed in church for everyone to view at our Harvest Festival.
Parents/Carers afternoon is being held on Tuesday 16th October. This is an opportunity to make an appointment with your child’s class teacher to discuss how your child has settled into their new class; your child’s achievements and targets for improvement. A separate appointment letter will be sent out early next week. We do hope you will be able to attend. We are also hoping you will come into school on Monday 22nd October from 2:45 pm and visit your child’s classroom to see more of the work they have been engaged in this term.
Congratulations to the 45 students from St Peter's C of E Primary School who answered an amazing 15,398 questions correctly between them, during the national contest last week. We came 15th out of 68 schools. Well done to Isaaq Mahmood from Orange Class who ranked 44th in the country with 915 points. Don’t forget, new contests begin on a Friday evening through to the following Thursday, and there are daily prizes to be won. Good luck!
On Monday 17th September Pink Class had a visit from Mrs Raven of the Gideon Society, as part of our religious education unit. They thought about how special the bible is and how it is transported around the world. Mrs Raven showed them many bibles and where they would find them in society. The children had many questions and showed a fantastic understanding of how the bible is a special book for Christians.
Blue watch from Burnley Fire Brigade visited Year 2 and Year 6 on Friday 28th September. The classes watched a DVD about making fire plans; discussed how important it is to have smoke alarms at home and who to call in an emergency. The consequences involved in making hoax calls were also discussed. Everyone was given a safety pack with the national number to ring if anyone needs a fire alarm fitted in their homes. Reception and Year 6 enjoyed a visit from the two school nurses on Tuesday 25th September. The classes explored healthy eating and personal hygiene.
On Thursday Year 6 participated in Burnley’s Safety Initiative at Burnley Youth Theatre. They took part in a variety of workshops including: how to resuscitate a person; road traffic accidents; how to cross roads and use buses safely; smoke free homes; alcohol awareness and keep fit. A good time was had by all including the adults who returned to school pleased with the children’s learning and behaviour.
On Saturday a team of young people from The Challenge worked very hard in improving our Wildlife Garden. Thank you to Mrs Crowther for organising this event and to the young people involved for being so generous with their time.
Mr Riley and Waqas Suleman (St Peter’s Burnley School Parliament Representative) visited Burnley Town Hall on Wednesday 26th September to discuss the initiatives Burnley School Parliament will be involved in this year. The first of these events is “Attendance Week” which is being held next week. Waqas will be sending out information on this later in the week.
Kind Regards, Catherine Greenwood (Headteacher).
