LIFEGUARD/INSTRUCTOR III

(Regular Part-Time – 30 Hours/Week)

The City of Terrace is seeking a highly motivated individual, with a love of all aspects of aquatics and excellent inter-personal skills, to fill the regular part-time position of Lifeguard/Instructor III at the Terrace Aquatic Centre. Under the direction of the Head Lifeguard/Instructor this position primarily involves supervising public use of the Aquatic Centre, assisting with the smooth operation of aquatic programs including supervising and instructing Red Cross swimming lessons, instructing Lifesaving Society lessons, and instructing Aqua Fit classes.

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications and abilities:

1. National Lifeguard Service Award (Pool Option); 2. Aquatic Emergency Care or equivalent First Aid course; 3. Red Cross Water Safety Instructor; 4. Lifesaving Society Instructor Certification; 5. B.C. Recreation and Parks Association Pool Operator's course Level 1; 6. B.C. Recreation and Parks Association Fitness Instructor; 7. 1200 hours or more aquatic experience with basic knowledge of pool operation, water testing and equipment checks; 8. Ability to set-up and run event swims and special events; 9. Ability to work independently and to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other departmental staff, general public and other Leisure Services personnel; 10. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with the public and staff in a courteous and efficient manner.

This is a part-time Union position (CUPE Local 2012) with a 30-hour work week, shift and weekend work may be required.
