Higher Education Challenge Grant May 15, 2014 – 9:30 a.m. -10:00 a.m. Governor’s Office

Committee Members Present: Lt. Gov. Drew Wrigley, Sen. Karen Krebsbach, Rep. Mark Dosch, Rep. Bob Martinson, Rick Burgum, Kathy Neset

Lt. Gov. Wrigley called the meeting to order at 9:35 a.m. and asked for any amendments to the agenda, none given.

Application for Scope Approval

Williston State College, Train ND: President Nadolny indicated that WSC is requesting scope approval on pledges of $1 million for the Train ND construction project. Total will be $7+ million. Rep. Martinson motioned for approval. Sen. Krebsbach seconded. Motion carried unanimously.

Application for Funding

Mayville State University, Rural Nursing Excellence Online RN to BSN Program: President Gary Hagen indicted that 1/10 of all donors to campus this year have committed to this program. Mayville State is hoping to get 12 new students for this by fall and 24 applications on file already. Approval for the funds was granted and he is now requesting to have the money released. Sen. Krebsbach moved for approval. Rick Burgum seconded. Motion carried unanimously.

Mayville State University, 125th Anniversary Annual Academic Scholarship Campaign: President Gary Hagen said that fundraising is up over 25% from last year toward scholarships and it can all be attributed to this public-private match. He requested to release funding released for this student scholarship campaign. Sen. Krebs moved to approve the release. Rep. Dosch seconded. Motion carried unanimously.

Next Meeting

Kayla Effertz asked if the committee approves talking about annuities in the next meeting. It will be an educational overview of the giving strategy before the committee approves its use with the match grant.

Effertz indicated Minot State will also have presentations for approval at the next meeting if schedules allow.

Lt. Governor stated the next meeting will be set shortly.
