PTA MEETING MINUTES May 12, 2014

President’s Report Caitlin Rockwell . Reported that the cancelled Fun Flicks PTA Volunteer Appreciation Night will be rescheduled, tentatively May 23. An official announcement will be forthcoming. . Reported the Board approved teacher grants for Ms. Tio for art materials for use throughout all grades. . Reported that the fourth grade students expressed their gratitude to the PTA for providing additional funds to meet their financial needs for the Jamestown field trip. Presented to the membership a “thank you” poster signed by the fourth grade students. . Approval of April General PTA Minutes.

New Business Caitlin Rockwell . Approval (by voice vote) of 2014-2015 PTA Officers. Slate submitted by the PTA Nominating Committee members: Anna Bowman, Southerlyn Reisig and Nancy Widmer.  President Elect : Emily Schell Jones  Treasurer: Drew Deering  Secretary: Jessica Wallace  VP/Communications: Charlene Nieman  VP/Fundraising: Kim Robbert  VP/Programs: Unfilled

. Treasurer Drew Deering provided the latest budget, prior to voting of funding requests. Copies of budget were made available to membership.  Estimated that General Fund has $50,000 in available cash.  Estimated that Capital Fund has $56,000 in available cash.  Advised to approve funding requests up to $40,000.

. Approval of motion to vote for each funding request separately. Motion made by Stephanie Lynch.

. Approval of $1800 for keyboards. Requested made by Miss Koss/Music.

. Approval of $600 for 5th grade “signature” graduation t-shirts.Request made by 5th grade room parents.

. Approval of $25,000 for school yard project investment. Request made by MSI.

. Approval of $1712.83 for portable PA for Maury PTA/Music events. Request made by Miss Koss/Music.

. Approval of $1000 for purchase of Maury ice maker through ACPS. (Note: The request is a follow-up to the previous request of $1500 that was approved by the PTA membership. Additional funds are needed to cover the total cost of the machine, with removal and disposal of existing unit and added sales tax.) Request made by Caitlin Rockwell.

. Approval of $13,075 for purchase of 24 laptops, laptop cart & 25 headphone sets through ACPS. Request made 2nd grade team for all school use.

. Approval of $21,000 for wall mats/climbing wall elements for safety and fitness in gym. Request made by Mr. Allan.

. Note: The total for all approved requests was $64,187.83. . Motion made for approval of $556.96 to purchase 4 stack mat pros ($27.99 each) and 5 tournament display pros ($89 each) for PE. Motion failed.

Guest Performance: Maury’s second graders, directed by Miss Koss.

Principal’s Report Lucretia Jackson . Announced celebration of SOL Spirit week from May 12-16, culminating with “Are You Smarter Than a 3rd, 4th or 5th Grader?” competition at the SOL Pep Rally on May 16.

. Requested that parents remind their children of proper behavior at school. Noted that parents of any child(ren) who exhibited disruptive behavior would expect a call from the teacher, Mrs. Logan or Ms. Jackson. Announced that a “time-out zone” would be utilized and students would be barred from participating in planned activities.

. Announced staff changes for 2014-2015:  Miss Bennett (K) is relocating. New kindergarten teacher was hired.  Ms. Stulb (1st) is moving to 5th grade. Now seeking a new teacher for first grade.  Third grade will increase from three to four classes. A new third grade teacher has been chosen.  Mrs. Wachur (4th) is relocating. Now seeking a new fourth grade teacher.

Vice President’s Report ______Brittany Fraser . Acknowledged parents for assisting with Teacher Appreciation Week. . Reported that Programs Working Group will announce working plan at the June meeting. Plan will be posted on listserv for membership review.

Fundraising Report Missy Estabrook . Reported that the Gala grossed $53,000, $45,000 net. . Announced upcoming all-day dine-out on June 13 at Crave at Bradlee Shopping Center.

. Submitted results of fundraising initiatives. Total: $107,846.17  Spring Gala = $53,078 gross (Expenses: $7733.28; Net profit: $45,344.72)  Spring2Action = $48,017.43  Innisbrook = $6,062.10  Grocery Points Programs = $2265.60 (ongoing)  Eat & Greets = $1721 (ongoing)  Fall Festival Bake Sale = $1200  Barnes & Noble = $1075.77  Mabel's Labels = $843.55 (ongoing)  Spirit Wear = $800 (ongoing)
