The Gwydir Valley Cotton Growers Association has a long history of supporting medical and allied health studies at a tertiary level.

Last year the Association has established a $1,000 scholarship for a Year 12 student, who either attends Moree Secondary College or is being home schooled within the Moree Plains Shire Council area.

The scholarship will be awarded to a student who shows a genuine desire to pursue a medical or health related career, and can demonstrate a particular purpose for the scholarship in helping the attainment of the goal.

Use of the scholarship could be for, but not limited to:  Helping to defray the cost of extra tutoring  Attendance at science/health short courses for school students run by universities.  Attendance at University Open Days.  Participation in Career Expos

In making their applications, students are requested to provide a 300-500 word essay on what their ambitions for a health related career are, and to elaborate on what they would use the scholarship funding for.

As well as addressing your own particular circumstances, the assessment panel would be interested in what you would like to spend the scholarship on, and how you see yourself assisting in the provision of rural health services over the medium to longer term.
