Interview Phone Dialogue for Use After the Interview

"Good (Morning/Afternoon), my name is ______"

"I recently came in for an interview on (Date), and I am calling to see if the position has been filled."

At this point, your point of contact will tell you one of three things:

First, the interviewer may tell you that the position has been filled.

"Thank you for keeping me informed. If any other positions open up in the company, will you keep me in mind for them?"

"Thank you for letting me know. May I ask you what it was about our interview that swayed your decision to another candidate? Do you have any feedback about my interviewing skills?"

Interviewers may be able to provide you with useful insight on different jobs that you may be able to do, or they may give you some interviewing guidance for your next interview. If you can keep an interviewer talking, they even may give you another chance at a different position.

Second, the interviewer will tell you that a decision has not been made, but that he or she will let you know soon.

"Thank you for your time. If there are any further questions that I can answer for you, feel free to call me at (leave a number where you can be reached)."

Third, an interviewer will tell you that a decision has not been made; however, you are a candidate that he or she is strongly considering.

"Thank you for keeping me up-to-date. Are there any questions that I can answer now? Would you like for me to come in again to discuss my qualifications? "

Always remember to thank your interviewer if you get the job or not. He may remember you later for another position.
