This is a call for nominations for the Geology and Minerals National Training session, “Ground Water Resource Management.” This session is scheduled for May 14-18, 2007 in Rapid City, South Dakota. Information about the hotel and training facilities will be sent to the selected participants. There is no tuition to attend this training. A draft agenda is attached. Purpose of the Training The training is designed to cover all aspects of the Forest Service ground water program and help empower personnel to effectively deal with the increasing number of ground water related issues encountered on National Forest System lands. Who Should Attend Resource staff (physical and biological scientists) and staff officers, engineers, project administrators, forest planners, special uses administrators, CERCLA, mineral administrators and others dealing with ground water issues. Training Objectives Upon successful completion of the training, participants will be able to: 1. Given a ground water issue, identify the legal and policy obligations, assess the problem, and design and implement a response in accordance with Forest Service standards and guidelines; 2. Given Forest Service policy and manual guidelines, identify ground water management needs and implement a ground water management strategy suitable for your home unit. Special Services The training will be held in a fully accessible facility. The field exercise will require climbing slopes and recording field observations. If nominees will require any special services, please let us know.

There is no tuition for this training, but please only nominate people you know are able to attend. Nomination Process (must complete both steps): 1. Forward the enclosed nomination form to your Regional Minerals Training Coordinator for prioritization by March 14, 2007:
