CHAPPAQUIDDICK TRIBE OF THE WAMPANOAG INDIAN NATION ENROLLMENT POLICY

Application: Applicants must complete the enrollment application and demonstrate through official documentation they are a direct descendant from an individual of Chappaquiddick Wampanoag ethnicity listed on the 1861 EARLE REPORT or 1849 BRIGGS REPORT, Massachusetts Census Reports. The name of the ancestor listed on the EARLE or BRIGGS REPORT must be stated on the application.

Documentation: 1. Documentation to prove direct lineage must be submitted with each application for enrollment. Copies of Certified Birth Certificates should be included for each applicant and for each parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, etc. to demonstrate direct lineage from the applicant to an individual of Chappaquiddick ethnicity listed on either the Earle or Briggs Report. 2. If necessary, copies of certified Marriage Certificates or Death Certificates may be submitted for documentation. 3. Applicants might be requested to demonstrate the connection of their current name to their birth name. 4. If other members of an applicant’s family are officially enrolled as members of the Chappaquiddick Tribe of the Wampanoag Indian Nation, documentation for some ancestors might NOT need to be submitted if already on file. The Tribal Clerk may be contacted to verify documentation of ancestors already on file.

Submission: 1. Enrollment applications along with copies of the appropriate certified documents should be sent to the Tribal Office to the attention of the Clerk.

Approval: 1. All applications and accompanying documentation will be reviewed by members of the Tribal Council. 2. After review and if approved by the Tribal Council an official letter on tribal letterhead, signed by the Clerk will be issued and mailed to the newly enrolled member of the Chappaquiddick Tribe of the Wampanoag Indian Nation. 3. Official tribal membership cards WILL BE PROCESSED and mailed out QUARTERLY to newly enrolled members over 18 years of age. Sept., 2010.
