Central Ohio school board member nominated as OSBA president-elect

COLUMBUS — Worthington City Schools board member Charlie Wilson was recently selected as the Ohio School Boards Association’s 2012 president-elect nominee. If elected during OSBA’s statewide conference in November, he will become OSBA president in 2013, following his term as president-elect. Wilson, in his fifth year on the Worthington school board, serves on the OSBA Board of Trustees, Executive Committee, Federal Relations Network and Audit Committee. Additional statewide assignments include OSBA’s Ambassadors for Education and Mentor programs. He is the Central Region immediate past president, and has served on the region’s executive committee for four years and its nominating committee for three years. During his board career, Wilson has served as Worthington’s representative to numerous committees, including the District Finance Committee, the Treasurer’s Advisory Committee, the Compensation Incentive Committee and the Worthington Educational Foundation. A four-time recipient of the OSBA Award of Achievement, he received the OSBA Master Board Member award in 2010. He also has served as the district’s OSBA legislative liaison and student achievement liaison.

Nationally, Wilson served on the National School Boards Association’s (NSBA) Central Region Nominating Committee in July and is on NSBA’s Pre-K Committee. He received the NSBA School Board Member National Recognition Program award in 2011. Wilson is a professor at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. He is active in many community and professional organizations, including the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce and the American Association of University Professors Executive Committee, and sits on numerous OSU committees He earned his bachelor’s degree in business management and economics from the University of Kansas and his juris doctorate from the New York University School of Law. Wilson and his wife Melonie Buller have two sons and live in Columbus. In its 56th year, the Ohio School Boards Association leads the way to educational excellence by serving Ohio’s public school board members and the diverse districts they represent through superior service and creative solutions.
