SUBJECT: Approval by Montgomery County Planning Board of New Hospital Site Plan
I am pleased to announce to you that today the Montgomery County Planning Board gave unanimous approval of Holy Cross Hospital’s site plans for development of a hospital on the Germantown campus of Montgomery College. This is the last regulatory step in the approval process and an important milestone for us after receiving a Certificate of Need for the new hospital from the Maryland Health Care Commission in January.
As I mentioned in August at our last Town Meeting, the Maryland Board of Public Works voted unanimously in June to approve our land lease with Montgomery College. Earlier this month, Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett signed an Executive Order designating our project as the first Strategic Economic Development Project in the county, which directed executive branch agencies to treat the new project as a priority and provide immediate attention during the planning, development review and permitting processes.
Our next step is to obtain local permits, after which we will begin construction later this fall toward a projected mid-2014 opening for the new hospital. If you haven’t had an opportunity to see the renderings of the new hospital, please take a look at our public website at www.holycrosshealth.org/germantown.
We eagerly anticipate being able to fulfill our plans to bring expanded health care and jobs to upper Montgomery County in partnership with Montgomery College. The new hospital expands our mission and is a tribute to all of you who provide excellent service to our patients, visitors and colleagues. Thank you for your dedication and commitment.
